Story
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Fun/Feel Good

I loved the story, the characters, and the Narrator. (Listened to many of her narrations before; very good.)
A story of Daphne and Miles.
Two couples.
Daphne is engaged to Peter. Miles is dating Petra.
The night Peter gets home from his bachelor's party, he tells Daphne he can't go through with the wedding. (1st bombshell) He realizes he has feelings for Petra (2nd); who has been a friend since childhood. On top of having her heartbroken, Peter gives her a week to move out since Petra is going to be moving in to Peter's house. (and the 3rd!)
Now, Daphne needs a place to stay. However, she moved out of state to live with Peter. She has no where to go...
You may see where this is going. it may be predictable, but it's an adorable feel good story, worth a read/listen.
Some giggles, some tears, lessons learned about relationships; and about the characters dealing with their partner's and their own flaws. It was huge page turner for me!!! I stayed up all night to finish the story.

I liked hearing about Millie and Enzo; their two kids. But why does trouble seem to follow them.
The family moves to a new neighborhood and into a house. Millie and Enzo are thrilled; the kids are into it at all.
Then they meet the neighbors. One is an over protective Mom. The other hits on Enzo any chance she gets, even in front of Millie. This distracts Millie to what is actually going on.

Story
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

King/Patton Best Combination 5 Stars
Reviewed: 05-29-24
Five stars for narration and stories. Stories range from 3.5-5 for me.
I enjoyed all of them; though on a couple I wanted more of the story (Turbulence Expert/Red Screen), the rest were just right. Danny Coughlin's Bad Dream was a good one; I had noticed Jalbert was like Javert as King mentioned in the Afterword. (I thought, cool, he must like Les Mis too).
I see many liked Rattlesnakes; though it wasn't my favorite, it was good and it was creepy. I love it when King's stories mention things from his other books; places, people, or events. Rattlesnakes gives a tiny update on a small island. It has the very same feel as that story as well.
Two Talented Bastids was a good opener. Followed by the Fifth Step, oof!! And we're off and running to another great Stephen King Short Story collection.
