Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Story
Iris Nightingale is more than okay. She has her life planned out to a perfect schedule. Work, run, sleep, repeat. She spends her quiet Friday nights sitting alone on a bench in the park, trying to push back the memories that no amount of running can help her escape. But one evening, there’s someone else on her bench - Hunter. Tall, wry and infuriating: everything about him gets under Iris’s skin. Little does she know that he's about to upset more than just her routines...

Don’t let the sci-fi aspect dissuade you - this is a very current-day story. Thought provoking and insightful about human nature and our hopes and fears. And I have a new appreciation for teachers and coaches.

Story
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Who talks like that?! If I ever met a man who talked like that, I’d run. So exaggerated and aggressive and unbelievable and I don’t even know what other adjectives to describe it. It ruined the story for me honestly. Why would an author or publisher think that’s appealing? I love me a good guy/bad guy spy/mystery/whodunnit but these ex military saviors don’t have to be so macho! Get real please. I won’t be listening to the sequels unless you get a talented actor.

Really a reminder of the innocence we start with and how much we take for granted if we are fortunate enough to have a basic childhood, and what happens when we aren’t. The lead character was so refreshing. Really a nice story
