Featured image for Phone Comparisons: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs OPPO Find N2

There are quite a few foldables available in the market these days. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them are still exclusive to China. The same goes for the OPPO Find N2, but if you do plan on importing it, that phone does have a lot to offer. This time around, we’ll compare it with another one of Samsung’s foldables. We’ll compare the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs OPPO Find N2.

Previously, we compared OPPO’s newest foldable with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, but this time around, we’re doing something a bit different. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Find N2 definitely have less in common than the Fold 4 and Find N2. Still, both are compact when folded, and both are foldable devices, which gives us enough reason to compare them. So, if you’re thinking of getting either of these, read on.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs OPPO Find N2: Design

Both of these handsets are made out of metal and glass. Well, truth be said, the Find N2 also comes in a variant with a vegan leather back, which is the model we reviewed. In any case, these two are different types of foldables. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a horizontal-folding device, while the Find N2 is a vertically-folding handset. They both feature box build, kind of, with flat-ish sides.

Both phones come with chamfered edges, and feel entirely different in the hand. The OPPO Find N2 is a lot heavier at 233/237 grams (depending on the variant), compared to 187 grams of the Galaxy Z Flip 4. That’s not surprising at all, considering that it’s a different type of a foldable phone, with larger displays and battery. When unfolded, the Find N2 is considerably shorter, a lot wider, and slightly thicker than the Galaxy Z Flip 4. When folded, it’s considerably taller, slightly wider, and thinner than the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has two cameras on the back, while the Find N2 has three. The design of the rear camera modules is different too. The ones on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 come directly from the back of the phone, they’re not a part of a larger camera module. The Galaxy Z Flip 4’s main display is smaller than the Find N2’s main display, while its cover display is a lot smaller than the Find N2’s secondary panel. The two phones do look considerably different, and they feel different in the hand too. The Find N2 definitely feels a lot bulkier, but both feel like premium devices.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs OPPO Find N2: Display

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 includes a 6.7-inch fullHD+ (2640 x 1080) Foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display. That is a 120Hz panel, and it supports HDR10+ content. That display also goes up to 1,200 nits of brightness at its peak. The phone’s cover display is 1.9 inches large, while it offers a resolution of 260 x 512. That is a Super AMOLED panel protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus+. It has a 60Hz refresh rate.

The OPPO Find N2, on the flip side, has a 7.1-inch fullHD+ (1792 x 1920) Foldable LTPO AMOLED main display. That is a 120Hz panel, and it supports HDR10+ content. It goes up to 1,550 nits of brightness at its peak. The phone’s secondary display measures 5.54 inches, and it’s a fullHD+ (2120 x 1080) panel. It is protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus, and it offers a 120Hz refresh rate. It gets up to 1,350 nits of brightness at its peak. Both displays on the Find N2 offer a 480Hz touch sampling rate.

Having said that, the main displays on both phones are great. They’re more than sharp enough, and offer great viewing angles. The colors are vivid, and the blacks are deep. The thing is, the Find N2’s main panel does get noticeably brighter, while it also has a less visible crease. On top of that, it offers a higher touch sampling rate, which is noticeable. The Galaxy Z Flip 4’s cover display is outclassed by the Find N2’s secondary panel. It’s sharper, offers a much higher refresh rate, it’s much sharper, and so on. Those two displays are definitely not meant to be used in a similar fashion, of course. Overall, the Find N2 does have the edge in the display department.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs OPPO Find N2: Performance

Both of these phones are fueled by a truly powerful SoC, one of the best mobile chips in years. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is used in both phones. That processor is not only immensely powerful, but it has great power consumption, and it doesn’t get nearly as hot as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It showed its prowess in pretty much every phone it fueled, at least from the ones we’ve used, and the same is the case for these two devices.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 combines this chip with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 flash storage. The Find N2 combines it with either 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 flash storage. We’ve used the 12GB RAM model, by the way. Having said that, the performance on both smartphones has been excellent. They’ve both been snappy in every way. That goes for regular, everyday performance with opening/closing apps, taking pictures, browsing the Internet, image processing, video processing, and so on. The same actually goes for gaming, as both have been able to run basically anything we tried without a problem.

One thing to note is that the Find N2 does come with Chinese software. You will need to sideload Google Play Services by installing the Google Play Store APK. Once you do that, everything works fine, though there are some limitations of this software when it comes to background apps and so on. From the sheer performance and stability standpoint, they’ve both been great.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs OPPO Find N2: Battery

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 includes a 3,700mAh battery, while the Find N2 has a 4,520mAh battery on the inside. The Find N2 has a larger battery, of course, as it includes larger displays, both of them. Its secondary display is actually much larger than the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s cover panel. The battery life has been excellent on both smartphones, actually, so that’s not something you need to worry about. Well, it has been excellent for us, at least.

We’ve managed to push the Galaxy Z Flip 4 over the 7-hour mark, consistently. The Find N2 fared slightly better, actually, as it managed to cross the 8-hour mark at times, but it was also able to go over the 7-hour mark consistently. Your mileage may differ, though, there are many factors to consider here. Depending on what apps you use, what’s your signal strength, what display you use more, if you’re playing games or not, etc. Also, by the way, we barely played any games on these devices. We did it only for review purposes, so do note that.

Now, when charging is concerned, things are quite interesting. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 supports 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The Find N2 offers 67W wired, and 10W reverse wired charging. The charging on the Find N2 is much faster, but the phone doesn’t offer wireless charging. What it does offer is a charging brick in the box, which is not something we can say for the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs OPPO Find N2: Cameras

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has two cameras on the back, a 12-megapixel wide-angle main camera, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera. The OPPO Find N2, on the other hand, has a 50-megapixel wide-angle main camera, a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 32-megapixel telephoto camera. Both phones do a good job when it comes to taking photos and videos, but there are some differences.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 AM AH 01

The Find N2 is usually more color-accurate than the Galaxy Z Flip 4. That being said, many people may prefer shots from the Galaxy Z Flip 4 for that reason. They often come more saturated, and at times even too saturated. Both phones provide plenty of detail in images during the day, but the Find N2 steals the show in nighttime shots. It simply provides more detailed shots, with less noise in them.

The OPPO Find N2 also nails HDR scenes, but the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is not bad in that regard either. The Find N2 does tend to crush the black in low light at times, though not often. The Find N2’s ultrawide camera does a better job overall, but it has a narrower FoV compared to the Flip 4’s camera. The telephoto camera on the Find N2 is not something you’ll use often. The main camera is considerably better, while the telephoto camera offers 2x optical zoom only. The video recording is good on both phones, but not the best out there.

Audio

Both of these phones come with a set of stereo speakers. Both sets are really good, while the Find N2’s are louder, noticeably louder, in fact. Speakers on both phones are well-balanced, however, and they do a good job when it comes to bassy songs as well. We don’t have any major complaints about the loudspeaker audio output, both phones do a good job.

What you will not find here is an audio jack, on either device. You can always utilize Type-C ports for wired audio connections. Alternatively, both phones are equipped with Bluetooth. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 offers Bluetooth 5.2, while the OPPO Find N2 comes with Bluetooth 5.3 support.
