WrestleMania 39 is nearly upon us. It takes place this weekend from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, and will see Cody Rhodes attempting to finish the story. As he takes on Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event. However, that’s not the only big match that we have at WrestleMania this weekend. WrestleMania is now so large that it is a two-day event. Something that the WWE started during the Pandemic, for WrestleMania 36 which was in front of no-one.

There’s a few other matches that are going to peak interest this weekend. Like the Uso’s taking on Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens for the WWE Tag Team titles. Or Becky Lynch, Trish Stratus and Lita taking on Damage Control (Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai), in what is likely a dream match for all of them. These are just a few of the many matches taking place in LA this weekend at WrestleMania 39.

WrestleMania 39 Main Event Preview

Headlining the card on Sunday, is Cody Rhodes versus Roman Reigns. That will be the main event to close out the weekend, and it’s stacking up to be a pretty big match. As it should. After all, Reigns is closing in 1,000 days as champion. Something that no one has even come close to in the modern era. Of course, no one is going to match Bruno Sammartino’s reign of over 2,803 days back in the ’60s. But the next closest to Roman Reigns right now is Brock Lesnar, who he passed nearly a year ago.

Roman Reigns returned at SummerSlam in 2020, after leaving when the pandemic started. Remember Reigns does have a weakened immune system due to him having at least two bouts of leukemia. So it made sense for him to sit at home for a few months. But when he returned at SummerSlam in 2020, he attacked Bray Wyatt. Then at Payback, he entered into a match with Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman and won the title. And he hasn’t lost since. He actually has not lost a singles match since 2019. Which is pretty insane to think about.

Then Reigns started the Bloodline storyline. Where he’d bring in his real-life cousins, Jimmy and Jey Uso, and later on Solo Sikoa who is the Uso’s brother in real life. He turned into the ultimate villian in the WWE, thanks to help from Paul Heyman.

Cody Rhodes on the other hand, returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 last year. This is after he left the company after being disatisfied with his creative direction and playing the Stardust character. He went and wrestled in the Indies for a while, and then helped create the WWE’s biggest competitor – AEW. Now he’s back home in the WWE, and ready to dethrone Roman Reigns.

For Rhodes, this is personal. His father, Dusty Rhodes never won the WWE Championship. Neither did his brother, Dustin Rhodes (better known as Golddust). He wants to win this title for his father, and for his family. But there’s another layer to this story, and that is the fact that Dusty was instrumental in helping to train most of the current wrestlers in WWE, having been a big part of the developmental program down in Florida. In fact, he trained Roman Reigns. So it’s gotten very personal between these two on the road to WrestleMania. And that’s going to lead to a pretty interesting match this weekend.

When does WrestleMania 39 start?

Both nights of WrestleMania 39 will start at 8PM ET/5PM PT. And should conclude around 11PM ET/8PM PT, there’s really no set time limit for either night of WrestleMania 39, so it could go on much longer. There will be a pre-show happening an hour ahead of kickoff, at 7PM ET/4PM PT on each night of WrestleMania 38.

And with Smackdown happening on Friday night and Raw on Monday, that’s four straight days of wrestling. Which is a dream for any wrestling fan out there. This Friday’s edition of Smackdown is being called “WrestleMania Smackdown” and there are some WrestleMania matches happening on Smackdown this Friday. Like the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Following Smackdown, is the Hall of Fame ceremony that will see Rey Mysterio go into the hall of fame. Which is a bit of an interesting move, seeing as he’s still an active wrestler, and will actually be facing his real-life son at WrestleMania this weekend.

WrestleMania 39 match card

As always, the card is subject to change. And since this is a two-day event, it’s possible that matches could be moved from one day to the other. However these are the announced matches and for the majority of them, the exact days have not yet been announced.
