Samsung‘s Android 15 and One UI 7.0 development for Galaxy devices may have hit a significant milestone. The company seems to have started testing the big update internally to squash major bugs before launching beta programs. The Galaxy S24+ recently surfaced on a popular benchmarking platform running Android 15. Subsequently, the Galaxy S23 Ultra followed.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra visits Geekbench with Android 15 in tow

The US version of the Galaxy S23 Ultra (model number SM-S918U) recently made its way into Geekbench with Android 15 in tow. If it is a genuine benchmarking run, the device must be running an early development build of the new Android version, with One UI 7.0 on top. Samsung is probably testing the build internally and using Geekbench to evaluate the device’s performance.

As said above, the 2023 Ultra model followed the Galaxy S24+ to Geekbench with Android 15. This is another indication that Samsung has commenced internal testing for the big update. It might not yet be ready for public beta programs, but the development process seems to be progressing nicely. The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 series should get the beta update first, followed by others.

We may have to wait longer than expected, though. Last year, Samsung opened One UI 6.0 beta programs in the second week of August. The company will reportedly slightly delay the One UI 7.0 beta this year. It requires more time to complete the One UI 6.1.1 rollout and a major new One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy S24. Maybe the development of One UI 7.0 AI features is taking longer too.

That’s not to say the stable update may also be delayed. Samsung could wrap up the beta phase quickly to release the stable Android 15 and One UI 7.0 update by the end of October. We will have to wait and see how things pan out over the next few months. Google is expected to release the final Android 15 build next month, on August 13. The Pixel series will run the new Android version.

One UI 6.1.1 will bring new AI features too

Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite is expected to pick up new features with One UI 6.1.1, which arrives with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 tomorrow, July 10. These AI features will roll out to compatible older models. The Galaxy S24 and S23 lineups will get them with a new One UI 6.1 update in August. The update may also bring major camera improvements to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Stay tuned for more.
