No major camera upgrade tipped for Samsung Galaxy S25 & S25+

Samsung‘s Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ may not get upgraded main cameras, both on the front and back. Well, we don’t have specifics about the sensors, but the resolution will reportedly remain unchanged. The devices will feature a 50MP primary shooter on the back and a 12MP selfie camera. Details about the ultrawide and zoom cameras on the back are missing. The new flagships are still months away, so it isn’t surprising.

Samsung may reuse its aging 50MP camera on the Galaxy S25

The base and Plus models of Samsung’s flagship smartphones have featured a 50MP primary rear camera since 2022. However, while the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ used the ISOCELL GN5 sensor, the company switched to the ISOCELL GN3 in 2023. This year’s models also use the latter. It’s unclear if the 2025 lineup will keep the same sensor or get a new one, but a resolution upgrade doesn’t seem to be on the cards.

The same applies to the selfie camera of the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+. Samsung is reportedly equipping the phones with a 12MP unit, unchanged from the 2023 and 2024 models (the 2022 lineup had a 10MP selfie shooter). Once again, sensor details are missing, so we can’t confirm if it’s the same camera hardware or something new. However, we doubt that Samsung will introduce a new 12MP selfie camera on its 2025 flagships.

Dutch publication GalaxyClub, the source of this information, doesn’t have details about the upcoming Galaxy flagships’ ultrawide and zoom cameras. Interestingly, a previous leak from a prolific industry insider said the Galaxy S25 Ultra will get newer sensors for the Ultrawide and 3x zoom cameras. The next-gen Ultra will reportedly feature a 50MP ultrawide lens instead of 12MP and a 50MP 3x zoom camera instead of 10MP.

Since the other two models usually share the ultrawide and 3x zoom cameras with the Ultra, there’s a possibility that the upgraded sensors will make it into the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ too. We have more reasons to expect that as the Ultra model is said to keep the same 200MP main camera as its siblings. Its 50MP 5x zoom camera will also reportedly carry over unchanged. We don’t have details about its selfie camera.

The 2025 Samsung flagships may come costlier

Samsung will launch the Galaxy S25 series in early 2025. There is still a lot of time before the company starts production. However, early rumors suggest the new flagships will come costlier. The Korean firm may ship the devices with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 globally because of yield issues with the Exynos 2500. Since Qualcomm is raising the prices of its next-gen chip, Samsung may charge more for the Galaxy S25 trio. We should get a clearer picture in the coming months.
