Samsung‘s May security patch is now rolling out to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy S20 FE in the US. The foldable has already received this update in some international markets, while the Fan Edition phone is just starting to pick it up. A global rollout for both devices should be just around the corner.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 grabs the May security update in the US

A few days ago, Samsung rolled out the May SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to the Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and a few other devices in the US. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 also started picking up the update around the same time but only in select international markets. Thankfully, the company didn’t take long to bring it to the US.

The 2022 Fold is receiving the new SMR on both carrier-locked and factory-unlocked devices. The new firmware build numbers are F936USQS5FXE5 and F936U1UES5FXE5, respectively. Samsung has yet to reflect this rollout on its official update tracker. However, the build numbers suggest the latest release is all about security fixes.

Since the Galaxy Z Fold 4 recently received the One UI 6.1 update with several new features, including AI features from the Galaxy S24 series, we aren’t surprised that the May SMR doesn’t bring anything more. The next notable update might be One UI 6.1.1 after the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 launch. It might come in August.

The Galaxy S20 FE, on the other hand, is done getting feature updates. It is nearing its end of life and will only receive security patches. The latest patch is available for carrier-locked units in the US with the firmware build number G781USQSGHXE2. A wider rollout covering all eligible units worldwide may begin in the coming days.

If you are using either of these devices, watch out for a notification about the May update. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app. Navigate to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. Do note that updates aren’t released for everyone at the same time. Some users may have to wait longer than others.

The latest security patch fixes over 50 vulnerabilities

Samsung’s May SMR for Galaxy devices patches 55 security issues, including three critical vulnerabilities in Android OS. This is the total number of patches across the Galaxy family. Some devices may be affected by more issues than others. Nonetheless, you should always install the latest available security patch on time.
