Yesterday, Google released Android 15 Beta 2 with a handful of features including a new feature called “Adaptive Vibration” which is now available to some Pixel users. The all-new vibration setting allows Pixel phones to use microphones to adjust vibration intensity based on surroundings.

A new Adaptive Vibration feature is available in Android 15 Beta 2

Android Authority reports that the new Adaptive Vibration setting is available under Settings > Sounds & Vibration > Vibration & haptics. Not to forget, many Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro users running Android 15 Beta 2 spotted the Adaptive Vibration setting. That means the feature is not limited to a single model.

The description of the new vibration setting in Android 15 speaks for itself. The screenshot shared by the publication clearly states that the new feature will “automatically adjust your phone’s vibrations based on your environment.” When you enable this feature, it uses the device’s microphone and other sensors to determine sound levels and context. The feature description mentions that “no data is ever recorded” to maintain users’ privacy.

Enabling Adaptive Vibration auto-adjusts the intensity of vibration based on the surrounding

The Adaptive Vibration setting page in Android 15 Beta 2 also features an animation. The animation gives an idea of how the feature would work based on the surroundings. Once you enable the feature, your phone will vibrate intensely if it’s lying on a couch. But, the vibration is less intense when it’s on the table.

Since it is possible for users not to notice a vibration due to cushions and other things on the couch, the vibration gets stronger. On the flip side, your phone would vibrate with less intensity to prevent the rustling of objects on a table. That said, there’s no mention of other sensors other than microphones used to auto-adjust vibration strength in Android 15.

Android Authority further adds that it spotted the feature in an earlier beta release but expected it to come later, after the launch of the Google Pixel 9 series. Not to forget, none of the marketing copies for Android 15 Beta 2 talked about the Adaptive Vibration feature. So, it seems Google didn’t intend to roll out this feature with this release initially.

But, now that it’s here, it will be interesting to see how this feature works in real life. Moreover, it won’t be wrong to say that the feature looks useful by all means.
