What’s going on here? Well, Epic had two major demands from Google, in regards to the Play Store. Epic asked to have the Epic Games Store live inside the Play Store and have access to every app inside Google Play, in a way.

Well, it seems like at least one of the two could happen moving forward. Judge Donato is considering those two asks, as it ordered Google to calculate teh costs of complying with those demands. Google has until June 24 to do so.

If Judge Donato actually forces Google to heed to the two major demands, it would basically force Google to give other app stores access to the entire Google Play catalog of apps. The Verge shared the exact part of a document where the demands are listed if you’re interested.

Google could be forced to carry other app stores within Play Store for six years

If Judge Donato rules in Epic’s favor, Google would be forced to carry other third-party app stores within its Google Play Store for six years.

Once Google is done with its calculations regarding the costs, Epic will get a chance to question Google’s experts and engineers about their estimates. If Epic sees some inaccuracies, it’ll get a chance to file a rebuttal.

The final hearing is scheduled for August 14. It remains to be seen how will this end. If Judge Donato rules in Epic’s favor on these demands, it’ll be a huge deal not only for Epic but other companies too. It’ll be a turning point if you will.
