The upcoming version of Android, Android 15, is said to offer improved landscape mode. This information comes from Mishaal Rahman, who shared the info via Android Authority.

Android 15 will deliver an improved landscape mode for phones

He reports that Android 15 will revamp both the lock screen and notification panel to look better in landscape mode. If you consider that the lock screen can’t even be rotated on Android 14, this is a major win.

The notification panel, at the moment, does rotate, but there’s a lot of wasted space there, and it simply doesn’t look as good. Once Mishaal manually enabled these changes in an Android 15 build, he saw the changes. Let’s start with the notification panel.

There will be a lot less wasted space

If you take a look at the gallery provided below, you’ll see how it’ll look in landscape mode. You’ll be able to see a brightness slider, four quick settings tiles (2×2 layout), and several other elements on the left side of the screen. On the right, your notifications will be placed.

Needless to say, that’s a great solution, as it basically splits the screen in half, and yet offers plenty of information/UI elements for you to interact with. Let’s hope other OEMs will follow suit with their Android skins.

What about the lock screen? Well, it looks similar to the one for tablets, which is a good thing. If you take a look at the gallery below, you’ll be able to see the changes.

Your notifications will be placed on the right, if there are any, while the clock, date, and weather info will sit on the left. Even the PIN code entry form looks nice in this layout. There are still some issues here, as the media player overlaps with the lock screen shortcuts, for example. More of those issues are present, but Google will hopefully sort things out soon.
