PlayStation now has Ubisoft+ Classics as an À la carte service

PlayStation users are getting a nice little bonus today as Ubisoft now offers its Ubisoft+ Classics service as an À la carte (standalone) option. If you’re a fan of Ubisoft games, then this is something you’re going to want to check out as it offers access to a collection of some honestly great Ubisoft titles.

Ubisoft+ Classics, like the regular Ubisoft+ service, allows you to download games so you can play them on your chosen platform. In this case, your PlayStation console. These are curated and new ones are added into the service every so often while some may be swapped out from time to time. This is not too unlike what Microsoft does with Xbox Game Pass, or what Sony does with its PlayStation Plus Games Catalog.

You won’t have access to the absolute newest games that Ubisoft has released. You do still get access to some fairly recent releases, however. For example, the Classics catalog doesn’t include Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. But you will find titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 6 in there. These are only a couple of years old. So you won’t be limited to just some of Ubisoft’s oldest games in existence. The service will cost $8 a month if you’re looking to load up on Ubisoft games. Additionally, you can sign up for it right on your console. So there’s no need to go to the Ubisoft or PlayStation websites.

Ubisoft+ Classics still comes with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium

Ubisoft giving PlayStation console owners the choice to sign up for Classics on its own is an excellent idea. It’s never bad to have more options for your gaming habits. That being said, you don’t need to sign up for this $8-a-month plan if you already have PlayStation Plus Extra or PlayStation Plus Premium. Ever since Ubisoft brought Ubisoft+ Classics to Sony’s platform, it’s been available through PlayStation Plus.

But here’s something to consider. This standalone option is really only worth it if you don’t have PlayStation Plus at all. Not even the Essential plan. Because here’s how the cost breakdown works. PlayStation Plus Essential which is the only plan that doesn’t come with Ubisoft+ Classics, costs $9.99 a month. If you slap the $8 a month on top of that then you’re looking at $17.99 a month. Meanwhile, PlayStation Plus Premium is $17.99 a month and it already includes Ubisoft+ Classics. PlayStation Plus Extra is $14.99 a month and also includes it.

So the only way this really makes sense to have it is if you don’t sign up for PlayStation Plus at all. There are PlayStation console owners out there though that don’t have PlayStation Plus and if you’re one of those people, and you love Ubisoft games, then this service is for you. Alternatively, you could also just sign up for Ubisoft+ Premium on PC, Xbox, or Amazon Luna at $18 a month and get all the classic titles plus everything that’s new. Including some day-one offerings. The choice is yours!
