Samsung is rapidly completing its March 2024 update rollout in the US. It has just released the new security patch for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The company has already updated the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22, and its fourth and fifth-gen foldables.
Samsung’s March update available for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3
The March 2024 SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is available for carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the 2021 foldable duo in the US. Samsung is pushing the update with the firmware build numbers F926USQS5HXBD and F926U1TBS5HXBE for the two variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, respectively. The build numbers for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 are F711USQS6HXBD and F711U1UES6HXBE, respectively.
Neither phone is getting any additional goodies apart from this month’s security fixes. Samsung has revealed that the March SMR patches 46 vulnerabilities in Galaxy devices. 37 of those are Android OS issues patched by Google, including two critical security flaws. The remaining 9 vulnerabilities are exclusive to Samsung products and don’t exist on Android devices from other brands.
The Korean firm will soon push these security fixes to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 globally. The fourth and fifth-gen foldables also first received the March security update in the US. A global rollout began recently, at least for the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Others will follow in the coming days. None of the devices are getting anything more than the 46 vulnerability patches discussed above.
A new feature update is on the way for these Samsung phones. The company is readying One UI 6.1 for the devices. Introduced with the Galaxy S24 series, the latest version of One UI brings new AI features, UI tweaks, improved animations, new camera features, and more. Some of the features may not make it into older models like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The rollout is expected to begin later this month.
The 2021 foldable duo will get Android 15
Samsung released the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in August 2021 with Android 11 onboard. The foldables have received updates to Android 12, Android 13, and Android 14. They will also get Android 15, which would be the final major update for the duo. It may come late in 2024 or early 2025. One UI 6.1, meanwhile, may reach the dup in a month or two.
