Samsung‘s October update is now rolling out to a few more Galaxy devices in the US. The company is pushing the latest security patch to the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy A53, and Galaxy A52. The new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) patches 46 vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family, including a few critical ones.

Samsung pushes its October update to the Galaxy S20 series and more

The October SMR has been rolling out to Galaxy devices since early this month. Samsung has already updated most eligible models launched within the past few years, at least in some markets. The Galaxy S20 series, for example, received the update last week in Europe and Latin America. We can now confirm the rollout in the US as well.

As of this writing, the latest security patch is limited to the carrier-locked variants of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra in the US. The devices are getting the update with the firmware build number G98*USQS7HWI2. Samsung will soon cover unlocked units with this update, which doesn’t bring anything apart from security fixes.

The same fixes are also rolling out to the original Galaxy Z Flip. Both carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the phone are getting the update. These new build numbers are F700USQU8JWI2 and F700U1UEU8JWI2, respectively. Samsung is pushing some system stability improvements along with the latest SMR. There aren’t any new features, though.

The 5G version of the Galaxy Z Flip has already received the October SMR in the US. The Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A52, meanwhile, are new to the party. The update is currently available for the carrier-locked units of the former with firmware version A536USQS8CWI1. Like the Galaxy S20 series, it isn’t getting anything extra.

The changelog remains the same for the Galaxy A52 as well. However, this model is picking up updates widely across both carrier-locked and unlocked variants, SamMobile reports. The new build numbers are A526USQSBEWI5 and A526U1UESBEWI2, respectively. If you’re using any of these phones in the US, watch out for a new update in the coming days.

Samsung’s Android 14 update is almost here

Samsung is expected to release the stable Android 14 update along with One UI 6.0 later this month. The Galaxy S23 series will get it first, followed by other models. The Galaxy S20 series and Galaxy Z Flip won’t get it, though. The update should be available for the Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A52. We will let you know when the rollout begins.
