Samsung‘s Flip series clamshell foldables got a lot better this year thanks to a larger cover screen, which the company calls Flex Window. The 3.4-inch squarish secondary display on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 lets you get many things done without unfolding the phone. It can run any app and also supports some mini-games. The Korean firm has now enhanced the experience with an update for the Always On Display app.
You might be already familiar with always-on display (AOD), a feature found on many high-end phones with OLED screens. It keeps a portion of the display active on low power to show important notifications, dates, times, and more even when the screen is turned off. Samsung offers this feature on most premium Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The Always On Display app allows users to customize the AOD experience on their devices.
The company recently pushed a new update to the app on the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Version 8.3.30.4, which is now rolling out via the Galaxy Store (link below), brings a couple of notable changes to the foldable. First, Samsung has fixed a bug that caused problems with the informative/graphics style AOD clock when roaming. It would automatically reset your customizations, forcing you to manually re-apply them to get the best out of your foldable’s cover screen.
The latest update for the Always On Display app stops that behavior, so your clock style won’t change wherever you go. Additionally, Samsung has addressed a memory usage issue when executing certain AOD actions on the Flex Window. The Galaxy Z Flip 5’s AOD functionality should offer better stability on the cover screen. Samsung has also updated Good Lock for the Galaxy Z Flip 5
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 users are also getting an update for the Good Lock app. Historically, Good Lock has been a suite of customization apps for Galaxy devices. It still is for most of the Galaxy family. However, it’s a lot more than that for the new clamshell foldable. It enables you to use any app on the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s cover screen.
Samsung is pushing a minor update to the app with some bug fixes (via SamMobile). Version 2.2.04.66 is now available to Galaxy Z Flip 5 users via the Galaxy Store. Click the buttons below to download the latest updates for Good Lock and the Always On Display app.
