We all pretty much know how Material You looks by now, but Google is still making tweaks to its first-party apps. The next app to get a new look is Google Calendar. According to 9To5Google, Google Calendar’s widgets are getting a Material You redesign.
This change only affects the widgets and not the full app. We’re not sure if Google has any plans to change the appearance of the main app. It seems likely, seeing as the company is changing the widgets.
Google Calendar’s widgets are getting the Material You redesign
This redesign is made up of both noticeable and subtle changes. The most notable change has to do with the colors. Over the past couple of years, Google has been making its apps better match your system’s Dynamic Color.
That’s what’s happened with Google Calendar’s widgets. Previously, the widgets would have a white or dark gray background. For the list widgets, you’d see a lighter gray bar at the top that houses the month.
After the change, the entire background will change color to reflect your color scheme. You’ll see the entire background change, and the bar housing the month will go away. The month will just sit above the background.
There are some other changes with the list widgets. Starting off with the smaller widget size, we see that the text is larger. You won’t see the name of the month, you’ll just see the day. If you have nothing scheduled on a day, instead of the text just floating above the background, it will sit in its own pill-shaped box. Lastly, the Add event button is now much bigger, and it’s in a rounded square button.
The larger list widget shows some of the same changes, but these changes are more subtle. The biggest change is the Add event button.
Moving over to the month widget, we don’t see too many changes. The background will change its color to match your theme, the Add event button is larger and it’s been moved to the right of the arrows.
This change is rolling out now through a server-side update, so it should land on your phone eventually.
