Google Docs is one of the most feature-rich word-processing platforms that you can use for free. It’s always adding new features, and these two new features have been highly requested. Google Docs will add collapsible headings and custom building blocks, according to 9To5Google.

Google Docs recently went through a pretty big redesign which makes the platform look a lot different. A lot of the changes were cosmetic, as they brought in some Material You design cues. This is something that’s been ongoing for a while, as other Google platforms have been making the switch to Material You.

Google Docs lets you add collapsible headings

This is a feature that can really make it easier to read longer documents. Previously, all of your headings would be completely expanded, and that will make reading documents easier. However, this can make reading lengthier documents pretty cumbersome. People will find themselves scrolling through Page after page just to find the right heading.

This is where the collapsible headings will come in handy for Google Docs. When you make a new heading, you’ll have the option to enable collapsing. When you collapse a heading, all of the contents under the heading will disappear until you expand it Again. If you’re merely reading a document, you can expand and collapse settings if you have “View and comment” access.

There are also custom building blocks

This next feature is great if you constantly have to insert and reinsert certain elements into your documents. This new update will give the ability to save and insert custom building blocks. A building block is a pre-made template or snippet of text that you can save and plug into any part of your document.

So, instead of having to save text to a different document, or re-enter the information from scratch, you can simply go to your building blocks menu, select your saved building block, and insert it. Building blocks can be blocks of text, events, tables, Etc.
