YouTube Music is starting to roll out real-time lyrics to users on mobile devices this week. And it appears that users on both Android and iOS are seeing this new feature addition in their versions of the app. Real-time lyrics have been available in YouTube Music in a small capacity since last year, so they’re not entirely new. To put it another way, this isn’t a surprise feature add or the first time they’ve popped up.

However, as 9To5Google points out, when they were added last year, they were only available via the TV app for YouTube Music. The feature was also in testing, so not all TV users had access. Now it seems that Google is beginning push the feature to everyone, and it’s including mobile users in the rollout.

YouTube Music real-time lyrics on mobile aren’t rolling out widely

After the feature showed up in testing last year it’s nice to see it begin to make its way to Android and iOS users. However it doesn’t look like the feature is hitting all devices at the same time. The YouTube Music team may be pushing this out to users in waves.

Which means it could take days or weeks before it shows up for everyone. After checking the app on at least two of our devices, the real-time lyrics aren’t available. With only the static lyrics showing up for supported songs.

Real-time lyrics work in much the same way as the static lyrics. With a few changes. The real-time lyrics will highlight the current set of lyrics in the song with white text. There’s also automatic scrolling and each line of the lyrics has more space between them. Even if you don’t see this feature in your own Android or iOS app yet, now you know to look for it since it should be showing up relatively soon.
