Galaxy S20 series picks up the February 2023 update

Samsung‘s Galaxy S20 series is receiving the February 2023 Android security patch. The rollout began recently in some Latin American countries. The latest security update should be widely available for the 2020 Galaxy flagships in more markets over the next few days.

This month’s security update for Galaxy devices patches more than 50 vulnerabilities. As usual, the majority of those are part of Google’s latest ASB (Android Security Bulletin). The Android maker and other partners patched five critical and dozens of high-severity vulnerabilities this month. Some of those could lead to remote code execution if exploited, potentially allowing threat actors to take control of your phone remotely. This release contains seven Galaxy-specific patches as well. Samsung eliminated flaws in Secure Folder, Phone, Contacts, and more system apps and services.

All of these vulnerability patches are now available for the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra. The update is rolling out to both 4G LTE and 5G variants in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, and more Latin American countries (via). The new firmware build numbers for the phones in the regions are G98*FXXSFGWAD (4G LTE models) and G98*BXXSFGWAD (5G models). It should be just a matter of time before the February SMR (Security Maintenance Release) reaches the Galaxy S20 trio in other markets, including the US.

Samsung’s February 2023 update reaches the Galaxy S20 series

In a continued pattern, Samsung once again beat every other Android OEM to the latest security update. The company began rolling out the February SMR to its Galaxy devices before Google released the patch for Pixels. The Galaxy Note 20 series was the first to pick up the new SMR. The Korean behemoth has since added several other Galaxy devices to the party, including the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy A52 5G. It also simultaneously expanded the rollout to more markets.

The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra are the latest entrants to Samsung’s February SMR party. If you’re using any of the 2020 Galaxy flagships, or any of the aforementioned Galaxy devices for that matter, and haven’t received the latest security update yet, you should soon. You can go to Settings > Software update on your phone and tap on Download and install to check for updates manually.
