A couple of weeks back, Samsung released the One UI 5.1 update for the Galaxy S20 series in international markets. The update also brought the February 2021 Android security patch. The 2020 Galaxy flagships are now receiving a new software update in the US as well. Unfortunately, the company is only pushing the latest security patch here. The new One UI version isn’t available for US users of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra yet.

The latest update for the Galaxy S20 trio in the US comes with the firmware build number G981U1UES3GWA2. As of this writing, the rollout only covers unlocked units. The update is live on most networks, including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, Cellular South, Dish, Tracfone, Nextech, Xfinity Mobile, Metro, US Cellular, Cricket Wireless, Comcast, and Bluegrass Cellular. It should just be a matter of time before the update reaches unlocked Galaxy S20 units on any remaining network providers.

We expect Samsung to soon bring the February SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to the carrier-locked counterparts as well. The firmware version may vary slightly for those units, but the content of the update will remain the same. And speaking of content, the latest security patch brings fixes for more than 50 vulnerabilities. Seven of those are Galaxy-specific patches concerning flaws in Secure Folder, Fingerprint TA, and more. The remaining patches come from Google and other Android OS partners. At least five of those are critical issues.

The Galaxy S20 series should soon get the One UI 5.1 update in the US

While this update may be pretty important for the security of your Galaxy S20 phone, One UI 5.1 contains more goodies. The latest iteration of Samsung’s Android-based custom software brings a host of new features and improvements.

It has added new selfie effects to the camera app, introduced new gestures for more efficient multitasking, improved its photo editing features, and added English support for Bixby Text Call. There are improvements for modes and routines, Samsung Notes, Samsung Internet, widgets, and other apps and services as well.

Hopefully, Samsung will not make Galaxy S20 users in the US wait for the One UI 5.1 update for much longer now. We will let you know when the rollout begins. In the meantime, you can navigate to Settings > Software update on your phone and tap on Download and install to check for the latest update.

If you don’t see any update today, wait a few days and check again. Stay tuned for the One UI 5.1 rollout.
