YouTube TV has been around for some time, and it’s become a pretty big streaming service with some 4K content. People who opt for the 4K package tack on a hefty additional charge every month. However, select YouTube TV customers are able to get the 4K package for as low as $4.99.

In case you don’t know what YouTube TV is, it’s the company’s way of providing television without having to sign up for a cable plan. You’re able to stream content from different TV channels directly to your connected devices. You can currently pick up a plan for $64.99/month. You can watch channels such as ABC, CNN, TNT, Comedy Central, The Feed Network, and many more.

Some YouTube TV customers are getting 4K for $4.99

We’re not really sure why the company is trickling this down to certain people. Select YouTube TV users are opening their apps to see a new promotion pushing the 4K package for as low as $4.99 for 24 months.

As you can imagine, several users took to Reddit (via Droid Life) to talk about this new development. They’re not only seeing the package for that price, as other Redditors are seeing it for $6.99 and $9.99. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to this release. So, if you use YouTube TV, you might want to check to see if you have any promotions.

We’re not 100% why the company is doing this, but it has all of the hallmarks of a test. It’s possible that YouTube wants to test some cheaper price tiers on its customers to see how a lower price suits the masses. At this point, we can’t really say for sure, so you’ll want to take it with a grain of salt.

In any case, the regular price for 4K is $19.99/month. At that price, the plan is about $15 short of $100/month. That wouldn’t be so bad if YouTube offered more 4K content. Right now, the selection is pretty limited that it can’t justify an additional $20/month. Hopefully, this hints at a future price drop.
