A host of Samsung smartphones are receiving the January 2023 Android security patch today. The Korean firm has released the latest security update for the Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy S20 FE 5G, Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy A72, Galaxy A52s 5G, Galaxy XCover 5, Galaxy M42 5G, Galaxy A31, Galaxy M31, and Galaxy A02. The new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) has been already rolled out to dozens of other Galaxy devices.

The January SMR for these Galaxy smartphones is rolling out in different markets. The Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy S20 FE 5G are getting the update widely in Asia and Europe, with other markets to follow soon. The new firmware build numbers for the two models are G780GXXS3DWA3 and G781BXXS4GWA3, respectively (via SamMobile). The Galaxy S10 5G, on the other hand, is picking up the new security release in Australia and Europe. The updated firmware version for the world’s first 5G smartphone is G977BXXSDHWA3.

The Galaxy A72 is initially getting the January SMR in Russia with firmware version A725FXXU4CWA2. A wider release for this model should also be just around the corner. Meanwhile, if you’re using the Galaxy A52s 5G, the same update for your phone is already available pretty widely. The source confirms the update in dozens of countries in Asia and Europe. Rolling out with build number A528BXXU1DWA4, the latest update for this mid-ranger brings Samsungs’ Maintenance Model along with this month’s security fixes.

Samsung’s rugged smartphone Galaxy XCover 5 is another Galaxy device getting the January security update. The rollout for this phone is live in Asia and Latin America, with build numbers G525FXXS5CWA5 and G525FXXS5CWA2, respectively. The Galaxy M42 5G, which is an India-only phone, is picking up the January SMR with the firmware version M426BXXU4CWA2.

The January security update is also live for the Galaxy A31, M31, and Galaxy A02

The Galaxy A31 is also getting Samsung’s January security update today. The new firmware release for this phone comes with build number A315FXXS2DWA2 or A315GZHS2DWA2 depending on the market. The update is live in Africa, Australia, and a few Asian countries. Its Galaxy M counterpart, i. e. the Galaxy M31, is picking up the same update in Panama with firmware version M315FXXU3CWA2. Samsung should expand the release to more markets in the coming days.

Last but not least, Samsung is seeding the January SMR to the Galaxy A02. This entry-level smartphone, which is mysteriously still missing Android 12, is getting the new security update in Asia with build number A022FXXS3BWA1. Hopefully, the Korean firm will soon realize that the phone hasn’t received its final Android OS update yet. We will let you know if and when Galaxy A02 gets Android 12. For the time being, you’ll have to be content with the latest security patch.
