Samsung is on a roll lately. The company is rolling out new software updates for its Galaxy smartphones and tablets left, right, and center. Some are getting Android 13 while others are picking up the December security patch. Its Galaxy smartwatches have also joined the fun today. The Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 models are receiving new updates in the US, at least on Verizon’s network.

It appears to be a minor software release for the two wearable lineups. According to the official changelog, this update “provides performance improvements and enhancements” to the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4. Samsung may have made some software optimizations that iron out functional anomalies and improve the overall functionality of the devices. There may also be some bug fixes in tow. Don’t be hopeful for major new features, though.

Unfortunately, the changelog doesn’t mention anything else, not even the Android security patch level. So we can’t confirm the contents of this release. But if you’re using either of Samsung’s past two generations of Galaxy smartwatches on Verizon’s network, this update should be available to you anytime now. The company may also seed the latest software release for the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 models on other networks as well as international markets soon.

According to SamMobile, which first reported this rollout, the Galaxy Watch 5 LTE is receiving this update with firmware versions R905USQU1AVK6 for the 40mm variant and R915USQU1AVK6 for the 44mm variant. That for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro LTE is R925USQU1AVK6. The updated firmware versions for the Galaxy Watch 4 LTE are R865USQU1GVK6 (40mm) and R875USQU1GVK6 (44mm). Finally, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is picking up firmware versions R885USQU1GVK6 (42mm) and R895USQU1GVK6 (46mm).

Update your Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 or Galaxy Watch 4 now

This update may not bring any new features to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4, but you should always install new updates on your devices. They often improve the overall user experience. To update your Galaxy smartwatch, open the Settings app on the watch and go to the Software update menu. Now tap on Download and install. Wait for the watch to scan for new updates. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download it. Note that you can also download software updates for your Galaxy smartwatch from the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone. Go to the Watch Settings section on the app’s homescreen and you will find the same options there.
