NFL Sunday Ticket could be leaving DIRECTV in favor of Google’s YouTube products. As the NFL and Google have entered advanced talks regarding Sunday Ticket.

At the end of this season, the contract with DIRECTV for NFL Sunday Ticket will expire. Which has the NFL shopping that product around to various streaming services. Recently, Apple TV dropped out of the talks, which many believed they would be the ones to grab it. Now it’s looking like Google will be the one to pick up Sunday Ticket.

Reports are indicating that Google could be paying about $2.5 billion per year for NFL Sunday Ticket, if they are the lucky winners of these talks. That’s up from the $1.5 billion per year that DIRECTV was paying.

Google would add NFL Sunday Ticket as an add-on to YouTube TV and YouTube’s new Primetime channels

If Google does pick up the NFL Sunday Ticket, it’ll get added to YouTube TV as an add-on. However, we are not currently sure how much it would be as an add-on. Currently, over at DIRECTV, NFL Sunday Ticket costs $99 per month. And with the price going up by a billion per year, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see it cost even more with Google.

Google would also add it to YouTube Primetime channels, which it announced last month. Which would allow you to subscribe through YouTube and watch the NFL Sunday Ticket through the YouTube app, which is pretty nice.

This isn’t yet official, but we should expect to hear an announcement pretty soon. Since the contract with DIRECTV does expire at the end of the season, which is coming up in less than a month, with the Super Bowl happening in February. If Google does get it, this would be a major get for Google and its YouTube offerings.
