Updates are great… well, when they don’t render your device useless. There’s a new update coming out for the Samsung Galaxy watch 4, and it appears to be bricking the devices of some poor individuals, according to 9To5Google.
Things like this happen; a company releases the newest update to its devices’ system that’s supposed to make things go more smoothly. However, it winds up making things worse.
This seems to be what’s happening with the Galaxy Watch 4, as a lot of people are reporting their devices bricking after installing the latest update. The issue is affecting Galaxy Watch 4 users across different regions. It’s also affecting Galaxy Watch 4 Classic users.
Samsung knows about the issue that’s bricking the Galaxy Watch 4
At this point, we’re not sure how widespread this issue is. Several people have reported it, and it has been brought to Samsung’s attention. Because of this, the company halted the rollout of the update. This means that it could have been a lot worse.
Since Samsung knows about the issue, we know that it’s working to fix it. However, an issue like this is pretty severe because several devices are unable to even turn on. This makes downloading an OTA impossible. For situations such as those, users would probably need to send their devices to Samsung.
The update has a firmware number that ends in VI3. So, if your watch is running this version, and it’s working just fine, be on the lookout for the fix coming over the air.
As for what causes the bricking, it seems to happen when the device runs out of battery power, or you restart the watch. So, if you have the latest version, you may want to avoid restarting or having your device put out of power.
If you’re still on the older version of the software, then you are lucky. Since Samsung paused this newest update because of the issue, you won’t have to worry about getting the OTA. Also, if you do have the option to download the update, don’t download it.
At this point, we don’t know exactly when Samsung is going to be sending out the fix. We will have to wait for more information from the company.
