The Chromecast with Google TV 4K is the company’s latest and most advanced streaming device. It recently got Android 12, and that brought some welcome changes. Now, the Chromecast with Google TV 4K is getting the October security patch.

Since this is a security patch, we can’t expect any significant changes to the software. However, it does bring the software up to a much newer security level.

When the device got Android 12, it was on the July security patch. That’s several months old. While Android 12 brings the software up to last month’s security patch, it’s still much better than July’s.

This update is, obviously, crucial for security reasons. This will bring an update to the known vulnerabilities in the software that hackers can access. Weighing 148MB, it has the model number STTE.220920.015A1. If the update is available, you should definitely get it as soon as you can. We can expect a lot of vulnerability fixes to come with this update.

However, the security angle might not be the most important in this case. People have been reporting various bugs and instability in the software after updating to Android 12. Some users say that there’s general laginess in the software. One team made from 9To5Google said that they had to repair their Chromecast voice remote after updating.

This is something that’s to be expected with a major software update. When Google updated its Chromecast device to Android 12, it jumped straight from Android 10. There was no middleman, i.e Android 11.

With such a big jump, software bugs are to be expected. This is why Google issued a new update so quickly after pushing Android 12 to these devices last month.

We’re not entirely sure if this update will fix all of the issues in one go. Just like with Android 12, it took several updates to get it to where it was stable. However, the issues and laginess don’t seem to be as significant on Google TV as with Android.

If you want to update your system, go to your Settings, then go to the System section, the About section, and click on the System Update button. Your software will do a scan to see if the update is available for you. If not, then you might just want to wait a couple of days.
