Motorola may have just botched its chance of snatching a piece of Samsung’s foldable market. The company is reportedly pricing its Razr 2022 foldable, aka Razr 22, higher than the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in international markets. According to noted tipster Roland Quandt, the former will arrive soon in Europe with a price tag of €1,200. That’s $100 more than the former, which starts at €1,099 in the region.

Motorola may price the Razr 2022 foldable higher than the competition

The Motorola Razr 2022 debuted in China a couple of months back. The new model looks nothing like the first-gen Razr foldable from 2019, which was a modern recreation of the Razr V3 feature flip phone from almost two decades ago. While the nostalgia factor helped Motorola move some units of its first foldable smartphone despite a limited release, it may no longer be the case with the latest version. For one, it doesn’t carry any aesthetic similarities to the original Razr. But more importantly, the foldable market is getting competitive. People now look for value in foldables rather than just a style statement.

Unfortunately, the Motorola Razr 2022 doesn’t stand a chance against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 in terms of features and user experience. The latter is a well-rounded foldable with flagship-grade specs and best-in-class software support. The Korean firm promises four major Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates for the foldable. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is also water resistant, something no other brand has achieved on foldables yet. It also offers several “cool” features, such as the Flex Mode. You get a unique smartphone experience with this device.

The same cannot be said for the Motorola Razr 2022. Motorola doesn’t have a very good reputation for timely software updates. The phone lacks water resistance and doesn’t offer software tricks or features like Flex Mode to take better advantage of the foldable form factor. You also get a smaller battery without wireless charging. You can check out our detailed comparison of the Motorola Razr 2022 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 for more.

But long story short, if the new Razr foldable had any battle against the latest Flip phone from Samsung, it should have been fought through a competitive price. Unfortunately, Motorola seems to have missed out on the opportunity. We will know for sure once the phone officially goes on sale in Europe. The Razr 2022 foldable is also expected to arrive in the US market. We will let you know if and when it does.
