Samsung released the October 2022 Android security patch for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 a few days back. This week, the new security update is widely rolling out to both carrier-locked and unlocked units in the US.

The October SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the carrier-locked Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with firmware version F926USQS2DVI5 or F926USQS2DVI4 depending on your carrier (via). That, for the unlocked units, is F926U1UES2DVI4. Likewise, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is getting the latest update with firmware versions F711USQS3DVI5, F711USQS3DVI4, and F711U1TBS3DVI4 (unlocked units).

Samsung’s 2021 foldables aren’t getting any new features or other changes with this release. The phones only pick up the latest vulnerability fixes. Samsung’s security patch for October fixes about 50 vulnerabilities. These include more than 30 Android OS vulnerabilities patched by Google. The rest are Galaxy-specific issues that don’t affect Android products from other brands. One of those allowed a threat actor to gain unauthorized access to secure memory.

If you’re using the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Galaxy Z Flip 3 in the US, these security fixes will be available soon if you haven’t already updated your foldable. You can check if you have installed the latest update by verifying the aforementioned build numbers on your unit. You can do so by navigating to Settings > Software update and tapping on Download and install. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download it. You may also get a notification about the OTA (over-the-air) release.

This could be the last Android 12-based update for Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3

This could be the last security update for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 with Android 12. Samsung is almost ready with its Android 13-based One UI 5.0 software. It will begin the stable rollout later this month, with the Galaxy S22 series getting the update ahead of others. The rest of Samsung’s Galaxy lineup will follow soon. The Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy  Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the Galaxy S21 series should be the next in the pipeline, though not necessarily in that order.

As always, we will keep you posted with the stable Android 13 updates for all these Galaxy smartphones as Samsung rolls them out. The company will likely seed the new Android version to most of its eligible flagship models by the end of this year, with mid-range models getting the update next year. Stay tuned for all those releases.
