New Galaxy Watch 4 Ad Teases Google Assistant Support

Samsung is seemingly getting closer to rolling out Google Assistant support to the Galaxy Watch 4 series. A recently-posted ad on the company’s Spanish YouTube channel teases Google’s virtual assistant on the new smartwatch. The ad in question is just 15-seconds long and Google Assistant features within the first three seconds of it. But Samsung has put the brief teaser front and center. It shows a man asking Google Assitant to play YouTube Music on the Galaxy Watch 4. The Assistant is triggered with the “Hey Google” hotword.

This ad more or less confirms that Google Assistant support for the Galaxy Watch 4 series is just around the corner. Unfortunately, we still don’t have a precise timeframe regarding the public rollout.

Interestingly, this teaser comes right on the heels of Verizon prematurely announcing the Google Assistant rollout to the Galaxy Watch 4 series. In the changelog for a recent software update for the devices, the carrier mentioned that it brings support for Google’s digital voice assistant. Of course, it was false hope as the feature wasn’t part of the package. Both Google and Samsung confirmed that they are not ready for prime time. But it was certainly a sign of things to come.

Verizon has since updated the changelog to remove the incorrect information. However, Samsung now officially teasing Google Assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4 once again gives us hope. The last time the Korean brand provided an update on this matter (in February), it said the feature will arrive “in the coming months”. Hopefully, it wouldn’t stretch things further.

Google Assistant has eluded Galaxy Watch 4 since the launch

Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch 4 series in mid-2021 running Google’s Wear OS 3 platform. This shift from the in-house Tizen OS makes the latest Samsung smartwatches hands down the best in the Android space. But surprisingly, the watches have been missing one of the key features of Android all this while — Google Assistant.

Of course, you can still use Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant for voice controlling your Galaxy Watch 4. But Google Assistant has its advantages galore. Both Samsung and Google have pledged to add support for Assistant but have taken ever so long for it.

However, the latest developments suggest that the wait isn’t going to be much longer. Perhaps the announcement could come at Google I/O 2022 next month. The 2022 edition of Google’s annual developer conference is scheduled to take place between 11 and 12 May 2022. We will keep you posted.
