Google Translate Now Auto Switches Gboard To Desired Language

Language translation apps such as Google Translate make it incredibly convenient to quickly translate words or phrases from one language to the other. But there’s still a notable inconvenience here — you need to change the input language of your keyboard every time you want to type text in a foreign language, anything other than the default language of your device. Perhaps it’s a keyboard limitation. Anyways, Google is addressing this issue with the latest update for Google Translate. It can now automatically switch the input language on Gboard when translating text from a foreign language.

For example, if you want to translate a word or phrase from Spanish to English using Google Translate, the input language on Gboard will automatically switch to Spanish as soon as you select your “Translate from” language. Likewise, if you change the “Translate from” language to Hebrew, Gboard will switch the input language to Hebrew automatically. Gboard will return to the default language of your device once you exit Google Translate.

Earlier, you needed to go into Gboard settings to add the desired input language and long-press the globe icon on the keyboard to switch to it. You also needed to manually switch back to the default language. So this change makes things way more easy and simple.

It’s worth noting that this change is a result of deep integration between Google Translate and Gboard. The former won’t offer the same ease-of-use with any other keyboard app. Likewise, Gboard won’t offer this functionality on any other language translation app. We can confirm that this change is live on Google Translate version 6.33 and Gboard version 11.4.

According to 9to5Google, this feature isn’t available on Google Translate version 6.33 even with Gboard version 11.5. So you might want to install the latest update for Google’s language translation app to get it. We have provided the Google Play Store link to the app at the end of this article.
