Now Add Images With Text Above Or Behind It On Google Docs

Google added a few features under “Smart Canvas”  to boost sync between Google Docs and other Workspace apps. On top of this, Google is getting another feature that allows adding images with text above or behind it.

This will facilitate users who import documents from Microsoft Word. Moreover, Google Docs will ensure that the formatting is preserved. Previously, this feature was not supported.

Earlier, when importing documents from Microsoft Word, Google Docs did not support the formatting. This would displace the images and the overall format of the Word document.

Now with the new feature, the image options toolbar shows “behind text” and “in front of text” preferences. And they do exactly what they say.

Besides, these preferences now join the list which already contains “Inline with text,” “Wrap text,” or “Break text” styles under the “Text wrapping” settings.

As per the official blog, there will be no admin support for this feature. Plus, there will not be any end-user support as well. These new options will be automatically added to Google Docs.

 The new image options for Google Docs are rolling out starting May 24

Google Docs users will be getting these new image options via an update that is rolling out starting May 24. It will be fully available for everyone in the coming weeks.

This server-side update is available for Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus.

Further, it will be available for G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education, and Nonprofits customers. Users with personal Google Account will also be getting their hands on these new image options for Google Docs.

Google Docs has become one of the staple tools for users working or studying from home. On the other side, Microsoft Word is an important tool for offline purposes.

The new image options will definitely help users to customize their documents. FYI, this feature was already available on Microsoft Word 97.

Luckily with the addition of new image options to add images with text above or behind it, Google is trying to close the gap to make Google Docs a full-fledged word processor.

If you want to try out these new image options, you need to click directly on an image. Then locate the image sidebar or toolbar.

From there, select the option to add an image above or below the text. You will get the new Google Docs image options only if the server-side update is live for you.
