HMD Still Trying To Launch 3 New Nokia Phones Before Christmas

HMD Global is still trying to launch three new Nokia phones before Christmas. But whether it manages to do so is another matter entirely. The smartphones in question are the Nokia 6.3, Nokia 7.3 5G, and the Nokia 9.3 PureView, a newly released report claims.

All of those names should already be familiar to anyone who’s staying up to date with new Android smartphone releases. Because we’ve been waiting for them to hit the market – any market – for the better part of this year.

This is especially true for the repeatedly delayed Nokia 9.3 PureView. Previously reported on as the “Nokia 10,” this device was finally meant to debut this month… until it wasn’t. And if this was a flagship from any less established manufacturer, it would have already been labeled as vaporware by now.

The Nokia 7.3 5G is also hardly a mystery at this point. All that remains is for HMD to actually announce it alongside its pricing and availability details. Ditto for the Nokia 6.3 mid-ranger, perhaps the most interesting of the trio. At least from the standpoint of commercial, sales potential.

Since it’s extremely unlikely HMD will manage to make a dent in the high-end smartphone market. But value-oriented mid-rangers are a whole other ballgame.

The launch timing of any new Nokia phones isn’t entirely in HMD’s hands

It goes without saying that HMD would do well to release all three of its smartphones as soon as possible. Regardless of the exact list of markets that it intends to target with any single model. Because the holiday season is by far the most lucrative period of the year for consumer electronics companies the world over.

Otherwise, another round of serious delays would push the Nokia 6.3, Nokia 7.3 5G, and the Nokia 9.3 PureView into early 2021. This would pretty much make the entire X.3 range dead on arrival. Especially in the case of the Nokia 9.3 PureView; not only because the post-holiday period isn’t the ideal time of the year to sell anything of substantial value, but also due to the fact that Samsung is reportedly rushing the Galaxy S21 family.

Either way, this whole situation is largely outside of HMD’s control. Even though today’s report does not outright explain its latest change of plans. As a single look at the state of the global smartphone industry does. Even the world’s largest smartphone makers saw their supply chains shook to the very core by everything that’s been happening throughout 2020. So, it’s no wonder that a significantly smaller firm like HMD is struggling to hit its mass consumer market targets. But here’s to hoping we see the Nokia Android family expand before Christmas as more choices are always good news for consumers.
