Xiaomi’s sub-brand, Redmi, has announced two new smartphones today, the Redmi 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. Both of these phones have been announced in China, and both of them are considered to be mid-range offerings, though the Redmi Note 7 Pro is the more powerful of the two.

One would think that the Redmi 7 is considerably smaller than the Redmi Note 7 Pro, as the “Redmi Note” lineup represented larger Redmi phones in the past, but that’s no longer the case. Both of these phones come with displays larger than 6 inches, and the two phones actually look the same, well, almost the same.

Redmi 7 is a bit smaller, and a bit less powerful than the Redmi Note 7 Pro

The Xiaomi Redmi 7 is made out of metal and glass, it sports a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, and two vertically-aligned cameras on the back. Those two cameras protrude on the back of this device, while an LED flash sits right below them. Redmi’s branding is present on the back of the phone as well, while the back side of the device is curved.

The Redmi 7 features a tiny display notch at the top of the display, inside of that notch lies its front-facing cameras, and an earpiece. A “chin” is present below this phone’s display, while the Redmi 7 display comes with rounded corners. On the right-hand side of the phone, you’ll notice the power / lock, volume up, and volume down buttons, while a SIM card tray is accessible from the left.

The Redmi 7 features a 6.26-inch HD+ (1520 x 720) display with a 2.5D curved glass on top of it. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 632 64-bit octa-core processor, while it comes with 2GB / 3GB / 4GB of RAM and 16GB / 32GB / 64GB of expandable storage (expandable up to 512GB via a microSD card). Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on this phone, along with Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 Android overlay.

The phone comes with two SIM card slots (nano SIM), and a separate microSD card slot. 12-megapixel (1.12um pixel size, f/2.2 aperture) and 2-megapixel cameras are included on the back of this phone, while a single 8-megapixel unit is available on the phone’s front side. A 4,000mAh battery is also included in the package, while the phone has an IR blaster on the top.

The phone comes in Blue, Red, and Black color variants, while its 2GB, 3GB, and 4GB RAM variants are priced at 699 Yuan ($104), 799 Yuan ($119), and 999 Yuan ($148). The device will go on sale starting on March 26 in China. There’s still no word when will it arrive to Europe and other markets, but that will happen soon.

Redmi Note 7 Pro is a mid-ranger with a compelling camera setup

The Redmi Note 7 Pro looks basically the same as the Redmi 7, but it’s a little bit larger. The phone includes 6.3-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) display with a 2.5D curved glass on top of it. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 675 64-bit octa-core processor, while it includes 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of expandable storage (expandable up to 256GB). Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on the device, along with MIUI 10.

A 4,000mAh battery is included in this package, along with Quick Charge 4 fast charging, while you will find 48-megapixel (f/1.79 aperture, Sony’s IMX586 sensor, 6P lens, PDAF, EIS) and 5-megapixel cameras on the back of this phone. A single 13-megapixel unit is included on the front side of the device.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro includes an IR blaster as well, while a 3.5mm headphone jack is included here, same as on the Redmi 7. The phone is splash proof (P2i nano coating), while is measures 159.21 x 75.21 x 8.1mm, and weighs 186 grams.
