Android 9 Pie Coming To HTC Smartphones In Q2 2019

HTC has just announced via its official Twitter page that Android 9 Pie is coming to its smartphones soon. The company said that it is currently ensuring that the update is compatible with its devices, and the company expects that the update will become available for the HTC U11, U11+, and U12+ starting in the second quarter of this year.

HTC also notes that the exact timing of the rollout will depend on operators’ availabilities in different countries, though the company did not specify when exactly will the update start rolling out on its part. This is something, at least, we do know that it will land between the start of April, and end of June, and HTC will probably release more info soon.

No additional phones were mentioned by the company, only the HTC U11, U11+, and U12+, though some additional phones may get Android 9 Pie later on, at least they’re expected to. Needless to say, the HTC U11, U11+, and U12+ are flagship smartphones. The HTC U11 was announced way back in June 2017, the U11+ followed in December that same year, while the U12+ was announced in June last year.

HTC is expected to announce a new flagship this year, and based on the timing of its previous releases, we can expect that phone to land mid-2019. It is still unknown whether it will be called the HTC U13, U13+, or will HTC opt for some other name. We did not see a single rumor or leak regarding that phone, nor did HTC mention it in any way, so nothing has been confirmed just yet. The device will probably be fueled by the Snapdragon 855, though, as pretty much every major flagship this year.

On top of that, the phone is expected to include thin bezels, large QHD+ display, and it remains to be seen if HTC will stick to LCD panels, or will the company finally make a switch to OLED displays. HTC’s flagships usually offer pretty good audio, so the same is expected out of the company’s upcoming flagship. The phone will almost certainly ship with some sort of IP rating, while chances are it will be made out of metal and glass. We are only guessing at this point, so keep that in mind.

Regarding the Android 9 Pie update, the HTC U11, U11+, and U12+ users will get all the stock features of Android 9 Pie, but in addition to that, HTC will probably include some of its own features. HTC did clean up its Android overlay quite a bit in the past, and it actually works really well on Android Oreo, so the bar is set high for Android 9 Pie iteration of HTC’s overlay.

Adaptive Brightness and Adaptive Battery will be included in HTC’s Android 9 Pie update, as those are two core features of Android 9 Pie in general. The UI itself will probably look a bit different on HTC’s smartphones, due to the company’s Android overlay, but HTC will probably want to keep it somewhat similar to stock Android. We cannot really mention any specific HTC features that will be added, as the company did not share any info regarding that, nor did any info surface thus far, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
