In Short: Google has apparently decided to change the name of its ‘Google Keep’ application, the Mountain View giant has quietly renamed it to ‘Keep Notes’. It seems like this change arrived with version 5.0.371.03, a version of the app that started to roll out earlier this week. Once you get this version of the app, you will notice this rebrand on the home screen icon, launcher, and Android’s App info page in your system settings.

Background: Google Keep aka Keep Notes app has received a number of updates over the last couple of months. Google has added grid lines to the applications, for drawing, and also support for subtasks, which is something users will appreciate. This application has been available via the Play Store for quite some time now, and it is currently being used by a ton of people around the world. Google Keep aka Keep Notes app has been downloaded over 100 million times at this point, and it is currently holding a 4.4-star rating in the Play Store. In addition to being a regular note-taking app, you can also create checklists using this application, while you can also take down audio notes as well.

Impact: Interesting thing is, however, that keep.google.com website still refers to this service as ‘Google Keep’, while the app’s Play Store listing has not been updated either. ‘Keep Notes’ does appear in the side panel in Gmail, Google Calendar, and Docs, though. Truth be said, ‘Keep Notes’ describes this application much better, as Google Keep did not really say much. This is a note-taking application, which is probably why Google opted to make the change so that people are aware of what the app is actually about. Now, As you already know, Google has already rebranded some of its apps, to go in line with its new Material Guidelines, in light of Android 9 Pie’s arrival, so Google Keep aka Keep Notes will probably get an updated design as well, and this name change may be a part of it all.
