LG recently released an update for the LG V20 and the LG Q6 in South Korea that will upgrade the handsets’ operating system to Android 8.0 Oreo. Even though it is no longer the latest version of Google’s operating system, this software package still brings useful features like Picture-in-Picture mode, notification channels, and autofill functionality. With the Picture-in-Picture mode, users can view two applications simultaneously, with one app placed in a smaller window on top of another software. Meanwhile, the notification channels feature lets people determine the types of notifications that can be pushed by a certain app. The autofill functionality reduces the time spent by users in logging-in to websites and applications by remembering important information like usernames and passwords. Android Oreo also brings a number of under-the-hood improvements to the LG V20 and the LG Q6. These enhancements include additional battery consumption features, which prevent rogue apps from consuming too much power in the background, as well as the Rescue Party functionality, which allows handsets to self-recover from incidences of boot loops.
The software package also brings two new features specific to the LG Q6. Once the update is installed, the smartphone will gain support for DTS:X 7.1 channel 3D surround sound and the device’s flashlight will turn on or off depending on the music track that is currently playing. Meanwhile, both the LG G6 and the LG G7 are also receiving software upgrades from the South Korean tech firm. The update will bring the AI-enhanced Bright Camera feature to the LG G6, which uses artificial intelligence to determine the camera settings needed to boost the brightness of an image, while the LG G7 is getting an AR Stickers feature.
At this point, the distribution of the updates is limited only to South Korea, although LG Electronics already stated that the software package will be deployed in other markets within the next few months. Once the update becomes available in their area, users should first check if there is sufficient free space in the internal flash storage to temporarily keep the installation file before downloading the software package. Moreover, people should back up the files and images stored in the handset to prevent loss of important data.
