Aspyr Media, a game studio behind many popular titles on Android, is pulling game support for many modern devices that are running the latest version of Android, which is Android 8.0 Oreo. The support team notes that it is having instability issues with newer Galaxy, Pixel and OnePlus devices running on Android 8.0 Oreo, and also noted that there is “currently no update to resolve those issues but you can send your proof of purchase to our support team for a full refund.” So while it is not supporting the latest version of Android one some of the most popular devices on the market, it is offering up a full refund, which is a good thing. Considering a good number of these games do (or did) cost around $20.

Some of the titles that Aspyr Media has put out include Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Doom 3, Prey, Quake 4, SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition and many others. All of which are what you would consider a “premium” game in the Android world, but for some reason Aspyr Media is removing support for devices that are running the latest version of Android. It’s unclear whether the support team has tried to fix the issues, or are just calling it quits on whatever issues it is having with Android Oreo on these devices. It is also doesn’t bode well for Android P, which is due to be available next month, in a stable build for Pixel devices, and soon other smartphones.

If you did pick up any of the games from Aspyr Media, make sure that you do email support so that you can get your full refund on the game. You will need to send in a screenshot of the About Device screen of your phone. This is so that the team is able to verify that your device is one of those that is having issues, and not just trying to get a refund after playing the game, and possibly beating it.
