NOMU has just announced that Android 7.0 Nougat has started rolling out to the NOMU S10 units. The NOMU S10, for those of you who do not know, is the company’s rugged smartphone, which originally launched with Android Marshmallow. Now, unfortunately, this is not an OTA (over-the-air) update, at least not yet, those of you who would like to install Android 7.0 Nougat to the NOMU S10 will need to download the ROM from the company’s website, and use a special tool (like Odin) to install it on your phone, via a personal computer.

Having said that, all the necessary links are available below this article, and if you’re still not feeling comfortable enough to install it, wait a couple of days, as NOMU plans to release a video tutorial on YouTube soon. Now, NOMU also said that this update will increase the security of the NOMU S10, and that it brings a more user-friendly UI as well. In addition to that, the battery should last longer, and the phone should run smoother than before. The company did not mention any specific stock Nougat features in its press release, but this update will probably bring a number of stock Nougat features to the phone, features such as Quick Reply, bundled notifications, a new design of the Settings app, Quick App Switching by hitting the overview / multitasking button twice in a row, and so on. That being said, if you’re not feeling comfortable enough to flash this ROM on your own, for one reason or the other, we’d recommend you stay away from doing it before the official tutorial video becomes available, or just avoid flashing it altogether until OTA update becomes available, though we’re still not sure if it ever will.

Now, the NOMU S10 comes with on-screen buttons, and pretty thick bezels above and below the display, though that was to be expected, as this is a rugged phone. The device sports a 5-inch HD display, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage. The phone is fueled by the MediaTek MT6737 64-bit quad-core SoC, while it packs in a 5,000mAh battery. This handset is IP68 certified, and it sports an 8-megapixel shooter on the back. If you’re interested in purchasing this handset, it’s currently priced at $129.99 on AliExpress.
