T-Mobile is rolling out an update that will install Android 7.1.1 Nougat to all units of the Samsung Galaxy J7 with the model number SM-J700T. By upgrading to Android Nougat, users will experience new features incorporated into the newer version of the operating system, including native support for split-screen multitasking. While this feature has already been included with the manufacturer’s proprietary skin for several years now, native support means that more apps can be used in multi-window mode. The Quick Reply feature, on the other hand, allows users to answer messages or emails on the notification shade. There are also a number of under-the-hood enhancements that have been added to Google’s operating system. For example, Doze mode has been improved and it now works immediately once the screen has been turned off. When the functionality was first incorporated into Android Marshmallow, Doze mode would only activate once the device was completely at rest. The jump to Android 7.1.1 Nougat also brings additional features like app shortcuts, which allows the user to initiate in-app actions directly from the home screen. The user only needs to long-press an app icon and a list of actions will appear within a pop-up menu.
T-Mobile is giving its subscribers several options to update their devices. Customers may either wait for the carrier to distribute the installation file to their phones automatically or they may proceed to the system Settings app to manually start the update process. Another option is to install the OS upgrade with a personal computer using the Samsung Smart Switch program. Before the update is installed, T-Mobile advises its customers to back up all local files to either a personal computer or a microSD card to prevent any unexpected loss of data. It is also important to check if the battery of the device has enough charge to last the entire installation process. The software package has a file size of 1011.71 MB.
The Samsung Galaxy J7 is powered by the Snapdragon 615 chipset from Qualcomm, comes with 2GB of RAM, and features 16GB of internal flash storage that can be expanded with a microSD card. The device sports a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,280 by 720 pixels, its rear camera is equipped with a 13-megapixel sensor, while its front-facing module comes with a 5-megapixel sensor. The handset originally shipped with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and presumably won’t receive any major OS updates after 7.1.1 Nougat.
