Motorola Confirms No Lollipop For DROID Ultra, Maxx Or Mini

The race to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) is now well underway with a number of handsets seeing their updates arrive (or at least announced) on a regular basis. This is always the case by this point of the year, with carriers and manufacturers having had some months to make use of Google’s original stock Android as they see fit. One of the companies who has been working hard to update their devices is Motorola. This is a company who very early on (back in October) announced which devices would be getting their update to Marshmallow. Pretty much exactly as they did the October of the year before when they announced which devices would see the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update.

As part of that 2014 Lollipop announcement from Motorola, three specific devices from the DROID family were confirmed to be receiving their update. These were the DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx, and DROID Mini. As such, if you are not currently an owner of any of these devices, you are probably under the assumption they have seen their Lollipop update. Although, if you do own one, then you will know that the update has not arrived. Further still, Motorola has now confirmed that it won’t be coming at all.

The confirmation has come from typical Motorola information provided, David Schuster, who has confirmed through Google+ that neither the DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx or the DROID Mini will receive their update to Lollipop. Schuster did not go into specifics as to why the update is not rolling out but the posting does link to the Motorola site and to a very specific offer for owners of the devices. In short, if you do own either the DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx or DROID Mini, then in return for not receiving the Lollipop update as planned, Motorola will offer you a discount on a new phone. In particular, you can pick up a DROID Turbo 2 for $524 or a DROID Maxx 2 for $334. To take advantage of these offers, you will have to be an owner of one of the devices and you will need to make the purchase before the offer expires on May 19.
