Google Now can be one of the most useful features on any Android smartphone thanks to all of the things it’s capable of doing. One of those things is sending notes to yourself whether it be a reminder to pick something up from the store or to check in for a meeting at a certain time. Whatever the case, you can quickly and easily use your voice and Google Now to create little notes to yourself” anytime you need to. Naturally, one might think that Google Now would utilize Keep, Google’s note taking application, to create notes meant for yourself and to be saved for later, that isn’t the case though as it uses Gmail instead. It can however be switched to Google Keep pretty easily.
Here’s how you do it. The first thing to consider is that since Gmail is set as the default app for Notes when sending them to yourself, you’ll want to make sure your defaults are cleared, but first, you should head to the Play Store to download and install Google Keep. Once that’s done, head to settings, then navigate to Gmail, and hit the clear defaults button to get rid of Gmail as the default app for notes when using this particular Google Now command.
From this point forward, sending notes to yourself and having them stored in Google Keep for later on is a simple process and doesn’t take much effort. All you have to do is tap the mic button on the Google Search bar widget, or inside of Google Now, or simply use the “OK Google” command when your phone screen is asleep if your phone supports this. This should prompt Google Now to request an app of your choice for sending notes to yourself whenever you ask it to send one, and tapping on Google Keep will make it the default app for this purpose. Any time you now need to send a note to yourself for anything, you can use the OK Google Command from the Google Now screen and say “note to self,” followed by what you want the note to be (if you haven’t selected Google Keep as the default yet, this is where you would do so). After it’s done it will save the note to Keep. Not only does this allow you to easily save the note for later but since it’s in the cloud it can be accessed from anywhere you can access Google Keep, whether that’s a tablet, a smartphone, or through the web app.
