Google Keep is one of the best note-taking and todo-list apps for Android, but Google has always left it in the background, not giving the attention it deserves. There are several options like Evernote, Wunderlist, Todoist and so, but Keep has most features these popular services have with the addition of being completely free and deeply integrated with Google’s ecosystem. Still, it lags behind Evernote in some aspects, especially when we talk about drawing mode and image annotating. Everything is going to change when a new update arrive, as reported by Android Police, bringing onboard these features.
The discovery was made during a teardown of the APK from the latest update of Keep (v3.2.415), which has several sections of the code indicating that the app is about to receive a built-in drawing mode. There’s even the text dialog to be shown when the feature is released “For ideas that are outside the box – try Keep’s new drawing feature! Create a drawing from scratch, or draw on an existing image. As with all Keep notes, drawings sync across your devices, and are fully collaborative when shared with other Keep users.”, meaning users will be able to either create their own drawings or annotating on current images. As usual with Google services, everything will be synced with Google Drive and users will be able to collaborate with each other. According to the code, the feature will be triggered the same way as an image is added, and there will be several brushes and colors for choosing.
Google Keep already has plenty of features, as you can add quick notes from a widget or even add a voice note and the content is transformed in a text. It is also possible to set reminders based in either a time or a specific location, which is really useful and not every todo-list app has such feature. Additionally, as mentioned, everything is synced in the cloud and the contents can be accessed from several devices and the web. Recently, Google added the iOS version – after 3 years – opening the doors for more users to hop in. However, despite it coming installed by default on most Android phones, the average user doesn’t even know it exists. As Google adds more features and starts advertising it more, the app has a huge potential of becoming a hit just like Gmail, Google Photos, and several others.
