Looks like Sony and T-Mobile have finally decided to flip the switch and send out Android 4.4 KitKat out to the Xperia Z1s. Sony announced the Xperia Z1s earlier this year at CES in Las Vegas. The Xperia Z1s is basically just the Xperia Z1 but for T-Mobile. There are also a few other differences, like the headphone jack has been moved. We reviewed the Xperia Z1s earlier this year, and were quite impressed with how well it worked and performed. It did launch on Android 4.2.2, which was a little disappointing, since we did have KitKat out for a few months before it was launched, but it is now getting KitKat, which is great.

So if you are on T-Mobile and still sporting the Xperia Z1s, be sure to head into Settings > About Phone > Software Update, and pull down your update. The update will bring the Xperia Z1s over to Android 4.4.4 KitKat and that’s build 14.4.B.0.37 for those interested. According to the Xperia Blog, the update includes “the typical KitKat Xperia features such as a transparent navigation bar, a tweaked Status Bar and Quick Settings, new boot animation/themes and compatibility with the SmartBand SWR10 and Lifelog app.” So there’s quite a few updates here for the Xperia Z1s especially when compared to the Android 4.2.2 version of the Xperia Z1s.

So there you have it, Android 4.4.4 making it’s way to the Xperia Z1s on T-Mobile. Nice to see yet another device getting updated to Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Hopefully Sony doesn’t drag their feet with the Android L update when Google launches it officially this fall. Remember that OEMs don’t have access to the Android L code just yet. So we likely won’t see more than just the Nexus and Google Play Edition devices getting it shortly after the announcement. How many of you are still rocking the Xperia Z1s on T-Mobile?
