Samsung is finally pushing out the Android 4.4 KitKat update to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. This is the 8-inch tablet that Samsung announced back at Mobile World Congress 2013. It’s basically a 8-inch version of the Galaxy Note 2. It’s been waiting on it’s Android 4.4 KitKat update for quite some time, but it appears that it is finally on it’s way out the door. We’ve seen the update hit various other parts of the world, so it’s nice to see the update finally land in the US on the Galaxy Note 8 variant that was sold here.
The update is pretty hefty, around 712MB in size, and we are looking at tons of new features, since it’s coming from Android 4.1 to 4.4. So we’ve got cloud print, immersive mode, and a ton of other new features. The one thing it’s not getting, is the new version of Touchwiz that’s on the Galaxy S5, Galaxy TabPRO and NotePRO tablets right now. The update is obviously going to take some time to download, but it should run even smoother once you’ve downloaded the update. Now you can either wait for the OTA to hit your device or just download it via KIES. It’s pretty easy to do actually.
For those looking to grab the OTA, simply go into Settings, tap on About Tablet, then System Updates, and finally check on Check for Updates. You should be able to pull it down, but then again it may also be in a staged rollout, meaning it may take a bit longer to hit your device as well. So be patient. How many of our readers out there are still sporting the Galaxy Note 8.0? I really wish they had made a successor to that device this year, as I really liked the size and the S Pen functionality on that device. How many of you agree?
