Canada: Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Receive KitKat Upgrade

Bell Canada had announced back in March that Android KitKat would be made available for users of the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 in the near future – so we take that with a grain of salt while we wait.  The wait is finally over as an OTA update is finally rolling out, and at first we only thought it was for the Galaxy S3, but as it turns out, the Galaxy Note 2 is also being upgraded according to some tipsters.  Not only is it rolling out on Bell, but it looks like Android 4.4.2 KitKat is rolling out for BOTH devices on Rogers, TELUS and Koodo as well – but most likely on all of the carriers that sold the devices.

As usual with updates, they are being done as a roll out, so if you have not yet received yours, be patient (yeah, right) or go to Settings => About Phone => Software Update and see if it will update that way or you can always hook your phone to your computer and check via Samsung Kies.  The update for the Galaxy Note 2 is just shy of 500MB and about 364MB for the Galaxy S3.  Our source has received several tips for both devices over multiple carriers, so by the weekend everybody in Canada with a Note 2 or Galaxy S3 should be running the latest Android KitKat 4.4.2.

You will not see many visual differences between the Android Jelly Bean and KitKat, but under the hood, there is a world of difference to make your Android experience even better.  Android really worked hard to optimize KitKat to run on a device with only 512MB of RAM – not only allowing entry-level devices to use KitKat, but also, by reducing the OS’s ‘footprint,’ the higher-end devices should also benefit in overall performance, faster multitasking and app switching as well as improved battery life.  The dialer was “improved,” although there has been mixed reactions on that feature.  You can now do more with your files with a new API that allows you to open, edit, and save files and better integration of “cloud” storage.

Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know if you have received your KitKat 4.4.2 upgrade on either your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy S3 and what carrier you are with…as always, we would love to hear from you.
