So about 450 days after Android 4.0 -Ice Cream Sandwich was made available, Verizon’s first LTE device the HTC Thunderbolt is now getting some Ice Cream Sandwich love. This comes about 159 days after the day it was supposed to be rolling out. This update brings the HTC Thunderbolt out of Gingerbread and into Android 4.0.4 with Sense 3.6. he update is about 400MB and you should be able to grab the update now.
To grab the ICS update for your Thunderbolt do the following:
- Go into Settings
- Tap on About Phone
- Tap on Software Update
For those of you that have stuck with the HTC Thunderbolt, you finally have some Ice Cream Sandwich coming. But it should be about that time to upgrade right? The Android 4.0.4 update brings lots of new features to the Thunderbolt. Including:
- Data Usage monitor
- Better multi-tasking
- Brand new sense UI
- Lock screen notifications
- launch bar
- Face unlock
- Folder Creation
- Recent Apps
- Verizon bloat
Yes, Verizon is adding more bloat in this update. But the good thing with ICS is that you can now disable all that bloatware, or at least the most of it. Now we’ve already heard from HTC that ICS was going to be pretty bad on the HTC Thunderbolt. But they did push it out anyways. So it’ll be interesting to hear from the handful of Thunderbolt owners left, how the user experience is on Android 4.0.4 vs Android 2.3 on the HTC Thunderbolt. There’s no doubt that the Thunderbolt was a learning experience for Verizon, HTC as well as other carriers and manufacturers. This was the first LTE device, and there were a lot of mistakes made. A big one was the battery life. Which has greatly changed with newer LTE devices.
