I am a huge fan of the original three and this is a worthy addition. I very much enjoyed this game and think that they recreated a lot of the mood from the original and quiet creepiness that I loved about the 2004 title. I won't spoil anything in the story but will say I they did a good job with it. The game overall was shorter than I'd hoped and the critics complain about the controls and character development or lack of; the controls are a little funky but did not detract much for me. I thought the characters were decent, some better than others. For me it really came down to recreating the feel of Black Mirror and fulfilling a title that I had wanted to see for some time. It accomplished that and more. I hope to see more in the future and see where they take it.

First and foremost, I won't be getting into any spoilers (save for a game play mechanic gripe) but the story and the horrors of Black Mirror will safely be yours to discover on your own.

The Good:

The Atmosphere is off the charts! If you've ever found yourself curious what it would be like to wander through the pages of Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft brought to life, then I can honestly say you have arrived. The Gordon's Family Castle is a gothic, powerful presence in the story. The dreary, rain soaked landscape surrounding the Castle is equally enjoyable but I had the most fun while exploring Black Mirror.

The Characters are each memorable thanks to the incredible character design and, while not all the voice acting is superb, I'm a bit of an old school gamer myself, so I found myself reveling in a few "campy" voice overs.

The Puzzles are challenging, but not to the point of being unfair. Ever single puzzle that I came across I was eventually able to workout, some rather quickly. All puzzles were enjoyable, my favorite being a roll top desk in the Library.

The Bad:

Loading Screens are a thing of the past, at least, the place for loading screens is before entering into a large open world. Within the Castle itself are multiple loading screens, sometimes lasting 15-30 seconds before allowing me into a new room. And God help you if you walk into a room and accidently walk right back out. To say that this game tests your patience is an understatement.

Quick Time Events are excellent when they flow seamlessly into the action of a story and they can really punch up the excitement, if done well, however, these quick time events were tedious, overly simple and completely unnecessary to the overall point of the game. I did enjoy the mechanic of trying to maintain your sanity at certain points, but the delivery is what really proved to be the biggest disappointment.

The Ugly:

Glitches of this magnitude should not be in a game that is going to be released to the public. Period. There were two occasions that my game ended prematurely because my character became frozen in place in the middle of a cut scene, which meant I had to restart. Not only this, the game crashed on four back to back occasions while trying to navigate through the final Chapter of the game. And not only that, sometimes the game will simply freeze for a couple seconds while my character is walking across the room. Let's hope there is a patch coming in the future.

So why three stars?

Honestly, I find a game like this acceptable on PC for the price of $20 and I wish that I had waited until this game was on sale before purchasing because I would have been much more impressed with a $20 price tag and more prone to forgiveness. There isn't much replay ability to this title, aside from a few one off choices that have not outcome on the end of the game. The story is what I would have expected so I can't fault it since, again, I'm a fan of the previous titles in the series. If you're coming into this blind, I would recommend Black Mirror if you're a fan of Poe or Lovecraft.

I can honestly say that this title is okay. I didn't love it (oh how I wish that I had) and I found the time to beat the game, roughly five hours, to be entirely too short to justify that price tag.

This game was made by KING Art who don't make particularly great games in my experience, Black Mirror is a broken, unoriginal mess. I wanted to like this game, as a fan of gothic horror, but this one isn't worth your time. Cliches are one thing but this game is where there is zero surprise when The Butler comes out of nowhere and tries to kill you kinda cliches. The game is very short, and takes place in an extremely small world, the main castle has about 5 rooms of relevance, there's a backyard, and one other location, thats pretty much it. The puzzles are... decent theres nothing thats gonna make you run for a walkthrough you should be able to do them all on your own but there pretty dull as well. The plot really dosen't make any sense you spend the entire game learning about your family's secrets unfortunately most of the time everyones so busy playing keep away with the dark secrets that the game forgets to give you any actual pay off and reveal anything also it's really hard to keep all the myriad of family members 3/4 of whom you never actually meet straight this could have been solved by simply giving the players a family picture to point out whom was who and how they related to you. Motivations are all over the place as well, the character models look like playdough and the characters will frequently stare off into opposite sides of the room while they pretend at talking to once another, most scary games benefit from having a way to get a game over, this is a rare exception as the the gameplay in this game is so bad that the rare instances when your in danger it just becomes a pain in the ass to start over cause you did'nt know what was going on. Moving about is tolerable but only just and for most the the game a women with the candle will be following you through the house, this means that you will constantly be stopping and waiting for her to catch up so you can actually see. The glitches in this game are bad... REALLY bad, there were at least 3 crashes on my first playthrough witch ended in a fatal crash that corrupted my save data and made it impossible to complete the game making me reinstall the game completely... this happened twice so if you do play this game make frequent hard saves. Finally I completed the game on the 3rd try, I hold out little hope that KING will sufficiently patch this game in the future as they havent with a previous game. Even when you get to the end... theres honestly little pay off for the trip. Don't bother with this title no matter how cheap.

The only other thing I'd point out isn't so much the game play and it may have been my TV but the darkness of the game was a bit too much. I couldn't see what I was supposed to half the time. I've played other dark games before and I never had to adjust the tint settings. I had to do that a lot just to get through the game.

The idea behind this game is excellent and the story and voice acting are also very good. The problem is that it spends more time loading scenes than playing the game. Also a deal breaker for me was the fact that it lost my entire invetory after loading the autosave and forced me to restart from the beginning!! Game is full of bugs and controls are terrible pixel-precise sensitive. Overall, a very very frustrating expeirence where you spend most of your time waiting for loading, travelling through the massive castle without anything at all happening for very long periods of time. Very minimal game value.
