Editorial Reviews

St. Vincent's first self-produced record, All Born Screaming, is Annie Clark at her most unfiltered. All Born Screaming is an invitation to test the limits of what is possible - and to then keep going. Brought to life with the aid of a highly curated dream lineup of friends - Rachel Eckroth, Josh Freese, Dave Grohl, Mark Guiliana, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa and David Ralicke - the album is an unadulterated expression of St. Vincent's singular vision.

I think every St Vincent record is a masterpiece. This time she is not assuming a persona for an art-rock project. It's Annie raw. All written, performed, engineered and produced with just a little help from friends. There are songs that are beautiful, haunting, devastating, and wild. To use common descriptors, they run the gamut from alt to industrial rock to ballad to reggae (ish). Each one is a beautiful and carefully crafted piece of work.

A nice return to form after the limp, Jack Antonoff produced, "Daddy's Home," which seemed antithetical to the St. Vincent aesthetic. This is a darkly powerful record that tilts toward funk on the best tracks and feels seamless. St. Vincent should always produce herself after this, as she accents her strengths and the arrangements are tight. Superb set of songs.

Out of the rubble of what is today's pop/rock music, is Annie Erin Clark rising above to save us all!

The core of the album are 3,4,5, three bass heavy percussive bangers (Big Time Nothing is outstanding)
But nicely varied - Violent Times, my latest nomination for the next James Bond theme song. Sort of trails off at the end into some Byrnesque bopping.

I bought this album after only hearing two songs, and I don't regret it.
I don't usually do this, I usually have to hear far my more before I will invest.
In my opinion, it's a fabulous album.

5.0 out of 5 stars typical St.Vincent assortment of songs, thought provoking, innovative, eclectic mix

this is her best album so far, eclectic , mature, has only two weak songs on the album; the opening track and flea .The rest of album is quite good and well above the standard of what sells well among the public today.Innovative , original and three top singles that should sell well , namely: The Power's Out, The Sweetest Fruit, Broken Man.I would highly recommend this album to an age group that appreciates the artist's talents, songwriting and not to a teenage audience which this album is not targeted at.

Highlights: FLEA, VIOLENT TIMES, SWEETEST FRUIT & ALL BORN SCREAMING.

Cheers
