About this item

  • LGA1700 AND LGA1851 CONTACT FRAME: Improved contact pressure distribution through Intel mounting frame for efficient heat transfer, thanks to even CPU contact surface
  • NATIVE AMD OFFSET MOUNTING: Optimized for the multi-die chiplet design of Ryzen processors - 5mm offset for optimal coverage of the CPU hotspot, resulting in more efficient heat transfer
  • ACTIVE COOLING OF THE VOLTAGE CONVERTERS: PWM-controlled VRM fan that additionally cools components in the base area, such as voltage converters
  • INTEGRATED CABLE MANAGEMENT: The PWM cables of the radiator fans are integrated into the jacket of the hoses, which means that only one visible cable is connected to the motherboard
  • LIMITED COMPATIBILITY WITH A FEW MOTHERBOARDS: Oversized coolers on the M.2_1 slot can lead to compatibility problems. An overview and solution is available in the technical data, in the manual and on the manufacturer's website. Please use the compatibility check

I had a Corsair H100 from the first time I set up my system but was never very happy with the performance and my CPU tended to run hot even at idle with 70+C not unheard of even at idle.

I recently noticed that the idle temps were climbing and a repaste and reposition of the Corsair cooler made no difference or even made it worse. Cue reversion to the included AMD Wraith Prism cooler but this was loud and I wanted to give another AIO a go. Decided on the Arctic Freezer 240 A-RGB after reading the cooler tier list on LTT forums and this matched what I thought would fit in my case and give appropriate cooling.

One thing to note, the radiator on this is *THICK* at 38mm and combined with the height of the fans it was too tall to be installed in my ancient case (Aerocool 800) without some butchery to the case. Managed to shoehorn it in the top but moved away from the motherboard so as to not foul any of the components.

Another thing to remember is to make sure to remove the protective plastic from the cooler plate before mounting it to the CPU. It will run hot if you forget to do this.

After removing the plastic sticker, reapplying Arctic thermal paste and some finessing of fan curves, I now have a near silent PC which adds nothing to the noise floor in my office (~45dB(A)) and manages to keep things very cool even under sustained load with a Prime95 stress test for several hours.

Now sits at 50C (about 10C above case temp) with fans barely audible and when stressed never breaches 85C under full load.

I have a 5800x which runs hot anyway apparently but I noticed my temps were suddenly 90+°c online said it was normal but I refused to believe it, turns out my corsair h100 aio pump had died, I purchased this based on reviews and a few YouTube videos and boy am I happy I did, not only does it look great but the quality is amazing, installation was easy for the most part although attaching to the am4 bracket was a little tricky if I’m honest, it’s also quite large so check on their website with their handy motherboard compatibility search, after the install my temps are so much better 25/30°c idle and 70°c maximum under load. The cooler is also very quiet, the pump
Makes abit of noise but nothing you will notice when the side panel is on and you have your headphones on. Overall for the value for money and performance you really can’t go wrong with this cooler.

The good:

1. good value for money
2. great thermal performance
3. low noise*
4 neat cable management

I don't think there's an AIO in the market that can beat Arctic when performance is adjusted for price. The more serious AIOs from the likes of EK or Alphacool seem to be retailing for at least £100, so not worth the extra cash for more noise than this one and only a non-discernible 1-2C lower.

I run this on an Intel 12700K overclocked to 5.1Ghz on p-cores and 3.9Ghz on e-cores, and idle 30C, 70C max. in gaming, and +90C in stress test (thermal throttling kicks in with prime95 when OCed but doesn't when running within Intel's recommended power limits).

Cable management is excellent and is literally 2 cables: 1 for pwm radiator fan and pump control, the other for the rgb on the fans. If you have the non a-/rgb version it's just one pwm cable.

With the single pwm cable you can control the fans on the radiator and the fan inside the pump block (took me a bit of digging on the web, as there seems to be no clear direction/instruction/explanation from Arctic). If you split the fans from the pump block you can connect the pump to the AIO header and the fans to the CPU fan header, on the motherboard. This way pump runs at 100%, while fans based on the curve. If you are more sensitive to noise like I am, then having the single cable power both fans and pump is the way to go, as you can adjust them in the BIOS, and not have the pump run at 100% all the time (more noise).

The bad:

1. unclear/non-existent instructions to control pump rpm (the loudest part of the cooler on idle)
2. no RGB on the pump block

When the pc is idle, on my desk, I can hear the pump. Fans spin at 40/50% so around 800rpm so it's not the fans causing the noise, but the pump itself, but it's quietest one I've ever tried so there is not better out there for me to swap to. In fairness the pump noise could be due to the other AIO in the system for the GPU, which truly runs at 100% regardless of load, so I am not going to reduce the score of this review by that much. Yet I don't feel like giving it 5 stars because of the lack of rgb on the pump block.

I had a heat sink and was running at 84c average on the CPU after a new graphics card install. I have gone full tower [rather than midi] and this cooler and am now running 49c average on CPU. So job done.

The generic installation instructions were fine though the fit was not perfect. I am a bit worried about it just touching some capacitors.

I have my PC under my desk so not right next to my ears, but the 6 case fans, PSU fan and this cooler noise levels is very low.

Only been running for a day. If things change I will update review.

Picked this up for my sons' gaming PC upgrade, it was quite a tight fit into the case so might be worth considering that in your build. The argb lights work fine with the Razer chroma setup that was already in there, so a nice consistent lighting experience. No issues so far on a 5800x3D processor, with temps in the mid 50's.

When I initially bought this product, I was worried that the installation was going to be very difficult but it went on super easy. (For Intel builds) You do have to replace the cpu latch with a firmer stand before you attach the Aio to it, but after that you put the thermal paste on and firmly press the Aio in and then quarter turn both screws until it is secured. Boom, done.

I had to leave the radiator off until I plugged everything into the motherboard because it got in the way.

But overall, it was easy to install and plug in - no problems whatsoever.

Overall SUPER GREAT deal. Massive cooling at a great price. A little bit of a rough go installing this. I had troubles getting the old backplate off and the new backplate installed. After that it was pretty smooth of an installation. The manual is all online but it does do a good job with the animations showing you where and how to install but a paper one would have been a good addition since you have your computer off (I had to use my phone to see the manual for install) to refer to during the process. Now the good stuff. This thing rocks! It took my Lenovo Legion T5 i9 11900K with GEForce RTX 3060 with the factory metal fins and stock fan from core temps resting at high 60's and into low 70s (C) and with load hitting into the mid to high 80s (almost 90) ALL THE WAY TO resting 31c and heavy load (editing 4k video, rendering motion graphics, and gaming) at MAX 72 degrees C. I can't say how happy I am with my purchase. I love the futuristic look of the pump, the grey and white hoses bounce my RGB light and looks awesome. The mini fan and the RGB lights on the fans only add to the other fans with RGB lights that came stock making the coolness rating of my system jump by a factor of 10x. This thing is super quiet and I can only hear light fan noise this coming from a system with now 5 big fans and 1 mini fan (on the pump). This is the one to buy if you have a small tower with RGB lights and a hot chip. I did my research and took a chance with this one. I was pretty concerned about going to water cooling and watched a lot of YouTube videos and review sites. This is the one for me for sure.
