Mühlner Motorsport is among the first teams to confirm an entry for the inaugural Michelin 992 Endurance Cup powered by Porsche Motorsport, and will contest the 12-hour race at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps with three Porsche 992 GT3 Cup cars.
Founded in 1989 by its namesake Bernhard, Mühlner Motorsport has competed regularly on-track with Porsche 911s since 2004, and is one of the most experienced teams to have signed up for the 6/7 September endurance event thus far. A veteran of more than 50 24-hour races to-date at the Nürburgring, Daytona, Dubai and Spa-Francorchamps (including six class wins at the latter), Mühlner Motorsport has also competed – and taken race victories and/or championships in – the Porsche Michelin Supercup, ADAC GT Masters, the Nürburgring Endurance Series (formerly the VLN), the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, and the 24H SERIES, among many other illustrious series across nearly 1,000 races.
Unsurprisingly, the prospect of a 12-hour endurance race dedicated to Porsche’s 992-generation GT3 Cup car at the vaunted Spa-Francorchamps – a stone’s throw from its headquarters in Ster – proved too compelling an opportunity to pass up.
“When we became aware of this race we were immediately committed to the idea!” team founder and principal Bernhard explained to 992 Endurance Race co-organizer CREVENTIC. “We just love endurance racing. It’s a real team effort of the entire squad: the mechanics, who have to prepare a reliable car; the engineers, who have to make our cars fast while managing tyre wear over the distance; the strategists, who have to plan for the unexpected and response accordingly in milliseconds; the pit stop crew, who have to work super-fast, and safely; and the drivers, who have to push throughout the race whilst also staying out of trouble. It’s a combination that’s been very successful for us over the years.”
