1) First Visitors Selected for the IAU Outreach Visitors Programme

We’re pleased to welcome Fatoumata Kebe and Kelly Blumenthal as the first IAU Outreach Visitors Program.

Fatoumata has received a PhD in Astronomy from the Pierre and Marie Curie University/Paris Observatory France. She is also the co-chair of the IAU Executive Committee Working Group Junior Members and Founder and President of the association Ephemerides that teaches astronomy to the marginalized public. At the OAO she will be the project manager for the Meet the IAU Astronomers! Programme.

Kelly Blumenthal is an astronomer with a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Hawaii and EdM in Education Policy and Management, by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Kelly will be conducting research on best practices in science communication and outreach determine programming for workshops for professional astronomers at the regional IAU meetings MEARIM, LARIM and APRIM.

2) Telescopes for All Winners Announced

The 17 winners of the Telescopes for all 2020 programme have been chosen. The programme, a collaboration between the IAU OAO, Stars Shine for Everyone, and Universe Awareness/University of Leiden, seeks to broaden the horizons of children, parents and educators alike, to spark an interest in science, and to promote equal opportunities for pursuing a career in astronomy. 3) IAU Online Astronomy@Home Awards First Deadline Approaching

The IAU Online Astronomy@Home Awards was created to recognise the exceptional work of astronomy communicators in this exceptional time. The awards are open to any person or group that conducts astronomy outreach. The first deadline for the awards, 31 July 2020, is fast approaching.

4) IAU Statement on Racism and Discrimination

The IAU has released a statement on racism and discrimination in response to the recent protests around the treatment of Black people around the globe.

5) IAU Catalyst June 2020 Released

The IAU Catalyst is an electronic-only bulletin issued twice yearly about the activities from across the IAU. This issue includes information about the adaptions of the IAU and its partners to the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

6) Asteroid Day 2020

Asteroid Day is an annual event held on 30 June to raise awareness and educate about asteroids. Some of our NOCs around the world have planned programming for the day. We’ve included these events in the links below. Please see the link for more information.

7) Europlanet 2024 RI NA Call for Observations at the Europlanet Telescope Network

Europlanet has issued an open call to professional and amateur astronomers from Europe to conduct observations using the Europlanet Telescope Network through its Networking Activity 2 (NA2) – Coordination of Ground-based observations. Applications are ongoing through 31 June 2023.
